Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Sabatino.
Hi Tim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as a fine artist, a painter. I took every possible art class in high school and college. In high school, I had the opportunity to take a basic black and white photography class so I took it so I could learn to photograph my girlfriend and friends to have a photo to paint from. That was a hobby until college when I needed a job to pay for tuition so I got a job at the local camera store. I ended up selling pro cameras and studio lighting for seven years and falling in love with photography. Next thing I know, I’m shooting like crazy and making a living at it. Now it’s been 28 years that I have been a photographer. I have also expanded in other areas such as DPing, directing and producing music videos, advertising commercials and advertising photography. Currently, I have offices on the East and West coasts in LA and Atlanta.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No way. It’s been rough. I am lucky that I am determined and I don’t give up. The biggest struggles I’ve had have been with being attacked by suppressive personalities who have tried to shut me down because I am quite a loud artist meaning, I like to get a lot of attention. This is for survival purposes not because I like attention. Money follows attention and that’s the jist of it. Suppressive people can’t stand to see a free-thinking creative artist succeed. So they try to squash and suppress. The solution to that is to keep on going and don’t stop. Flourish and prosper. And that has worked for me all of these years.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well at this point, I’m lucky to have a style of fine art that people recognize. It’s pretty cool when people see my art and say, “Oh yea, I saw this at the Arclight Cinemas, you did this?”. And so on. As far as my photography goes, I think I’m known for colorful beauty and fashion photography although I still shoot a lot of black and white since I love it so much. I am most proud of my fine art exhibitions in Malibu, Beverly Hills and the Arclight Cinemas, where tens of thousands of people saw my art which turned into many sales. I think my style is unique enough and that’s what sets me apart from others. But also I am very ambitious and determined so I work hard to get my stuff out there and that’s very important.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Basically, my fine art evolved to photography which evolved to video which evolved to directing and producing commercials and music videos.
