Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Trezzo.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As soon as I was talking, I was singing and there was this one day on the beach my grandfather overheard me singing and quickly said to my mother, “she has good voice, you should get her voice lessons.” Anything that had to do with performing I was participating in Chicago from talent shows, theater, musical theater, gymnastics, dancing and chorus.
This led me to a private performing arts high school called Chicago Academy for the Performing Arts, it was like the “Fame” school in New York. This is where I really honed in on my craft as an actress, performer, love of music and songwriter.
I continued my education by attending the University of the arts in Philadelphia and deepened my knowledge of opera and jazz. During this time, I also started exploring electronica music and wanted to create dance music. I always was working with multiple producers and performing around the city.
It wasn’t until I was back in Chicago my musical taste changed again and I sang in a metal band for about six years. That’s was fun lol I found it to be super cathartic to channel my anger by belting over the loud distorted guitars and double kick drums.
Alas! I had saved up enough money being a make up artist during the day and a server at night and was ready to spread my wings even further and go out to LA to pursuit being a solo recording artist. At first, I was gonna write pop songs but quickly realized I couldn’t relate to upbeat, peppy, happy songs. My lyrics have always been more raw, dark and edgy.
Always exploring and experimenting with different sounds I find that my music has become a mixture between dark dance, pop and industrial music. I love collaborating so I write with multiple songwriters and producers and have been releasing singles staying relevant to what music vibe I’m feeling currently. I would prefer to have a band and I’m always open to writing sessions with like-minded musicians. I have a new single coming out October 22 called “choke.” It is a song about comparison and jealousy. You can find all my music on every streaming platforms.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenges of being an unsigned artist or not in a band is an expensive one-man show. Nowadays, it’s common to be your own photographer, videographer, producer, publisher, stylist, booking agent and seek out and pay for all your PR. It all can become overwhelming and even stressful every time you’re going to release music knowing how much money and effort it takes to get indie music heard. It takes a lot of perseverance and believing in yourself. Doubt and or comparison to other artists success can all take a toll on your mental health so better to stay focused and in your own lane.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Something that sets me apart from other singers is having a large vocal range. Having the ability to sing anything from loud rock to soft breathy head voice melodies.
I’m most proud of continually putting music out independently and creating unique thought-provoking images and videos to go with my music.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice to someone starting off in music is learn multiple skills therefore you don’t have to depend on anyone else. If you sing, learn to play an instrument and or produce. Be prepared to be a self-promoting machine, which is hard for some artists, but you gotta strategically put yourself out there and play the game to a certain extent.
