Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Broussard.
Hi Taryn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For the past 12 years, I’ve been a private chef to many celebrities and executives in Los Angeles. I’m a self-taught, 3rd generation chef with a creative eye for beauty. My perfectionist nature is evident in everything I create, plate and serve. I’ve known I was meant to be a chef since my first ‘easy bake oven’ at the age of five years old.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the pleasure of catering events with Guest lists, including big names such as Elon Musk, the Sinatra family, Kate Hudson, Simon Cowell and many more. I’ve worked very hard to be where I am today, considering that I am a self-trained chef that has worked my way into a tight circle of high-net individuals out of pure passion and drive.
I started a pop-up pandemic restaurant called Lil Mamas and caught the attention of many during a dark time via social I began shuffling hundreds of orders.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although I’ve always had a strong passion for cooking, I didn’t always know what I wanted to do with it or even how. I knew I didn’t want to work in a restaurant and because I was supporting myself since a very young age, it was too difficult and expensive to go to school and still hold a full-time job. I got a job as a celebrity assistant and I slowly worked my way into their kitchen until I was eventually cooking and running events for them full-time. I started building from there and creating a strong portfolio. So, I guess I would say a big struggle in my career was figuring out how to get my foot in the door even though I knew I had the talent but without the degree, I had to work a lot harder to prove myself and my skills. I’m grateful for everybody who gave me a chance when I was first starting out because they are truly the reason I am where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a personal chef and event coordinator. I would say that one thing that sets me apart from my competition is my creativity. Sometimes when I’m cooking, I feel like I’m painting a picture, it comes so naturally that I don’t even know what strokes I’m making or where I’m going with it, but it always comes out just like I imagined.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I truly believe to be successful at what you do, you have to be passionate about it. I am driven and determined. I’m not afraid to take chances and I’m not afraid to fail.
