Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Scutti
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I could talk, I have always loved to sing. As an only child, I had a lot of time alone and I would normally spend it in my room singing. Later on in my pre-teen years, I began writing out my own lyrics and melodies and sometimes recording them on my cassette tapes. Ironically, I never joined Choir or Theatre in school because I was “scared” and never knew how to truly believe in myself. Allowing others to influence what I thought I could or could not do held me back many years. Thankfully, an opportunity came along and I jumped right on it. Moving from New Jersey to Los Angeles in 2018 was the best decision I think I ever made. I started writing and recording during the shut down in 2020, and in 2021, I started releasing singles. Three years later, I’ve released many more original songs, performed at places throughout LA, and have met so many other great artists along the way. I am where I am because I took advantage of the opportunities presented to me at the time. I’m very grateful for those who have helped me on this path. At the end of the day, I just stuck to my childhood dream and ran with it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to LA was definitely a rough start at first. I came out here knowing practically no one. Making friends was harder at an older age and it took a couple of years to actually acknowledge what I truly wanted to do – sing and song write.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Some know me as an independent artist. Others know me as an educator in the classroom. When I have the time and energy, I love writing and singing songs; covers are great too but nothing compares to an original. I think I’m most proud of what I’ve accomplished since I moved out here in 2018. I’m so hard on myself that I barely take the time to really look at all I’ve accomplished the last 7 years. I’m very grateful for this. I’m a pretty humble and down to earth person, which isn’t seen everywhere.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Moving from New Jersey to Los Angeles was one of the biggest risks I took. The second biggest risk was becoming an artist. Both risks worked out but it took a lot of effort, focus, and motivation to get here. Consistency is what helps me succeed even further. I think I like the risk taking mentality when it’s for the better.
