Conversations with PHILIP TZENG

Today we’d like to introduce you to PHILIP TZENG.

Hi PHILIP, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Philip Tzeng, aka @LasVegasFill, and I go out multiple nights a week and cover every cuisine imaginable on various social media platforms. I initially built my following on Yelp with funny, profanity-laced reviews, then transitioned to social media in 2017. I haven’t looked back, with over 520K followers on Instagram, 523K on TikTok, and 340K on YouTube.

Originally from Boston, MA, my love for all things food started early, shaped by Taiwanese parents and my mom’s extraordinary cooking. I then spent 10 years in New York City broadening my taste-bud horizons through a wide range of culinary experiences, which I took to another level by moving to Japan and traveling around Asia for two years. It was not until my first job in Vegas, a swing shift gig, that I started covering late-night dinner spots and subsequently caught the writing bug.

I currently run a social media marketing and consulting company aptly named LasVegasFill, boasting a roster of well-known eateries in the city; work as a photographer using only my phone; and work as a freelance writer.

So, how did I end up making crazy food videos? How did I get so lucky to escape the 9-5 grind and do this full-time? The version of myself from 10 years ago would be shocked and jealous of what I’ve been up to. And it was never one post or one interaction that changed my life. It’s been the consistency of hammering away with post after post, IG story after IG story, bearing down to create videos when the average person would have stopped a long time before then. It’s the innate, unreasonable will and want that led me to do what I do now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No life is without struggles, and what feels like the worst thing that could happen can end up being the best. Without struggle, you can’t appreciate success.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Please refer to my first answer. What sets me apart is the types of restaurants I focus on, which are a lot of fine dining and food porn, and I’ve been able to build an audience that trusts my recommendations solely based on a social media post.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
AI is looming big time and is only getting better and faster. Everyone will be able to make an AI version of themselves pretty soon and produce up to 100 pieces of content a day if they want to. Social media will be wildly different in as little as 3 years.
