Conversations with Olivia Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Jackson.

Olivia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Olivia Jackson. I am a professional make up. I have been doing make up since 2020 after getting out of the military. I pursued my make up career by trying different techniques and things that I saw online. That being said I am self-taught, but I originally wanted to move to LA so that I can learn the professional way of doing my art. So I’ve moved from Houston , Texas two years ago. I left my apartment. I left my relationship and everything that I knew to take on a new journey so that I can attend Cinema Makeup School. During this transition. As of now I have my own make up studio located in Anaheim, California, and I also have my apartment that I’ve had for over a year now. Make up has been something that has continued to save my life time and time again because it has provided me the opportunity to express myself. It was a place of escape in a creative way, regardless of what was happening around me. My ultimate goal is to be able to inspire creatives to continue to pursue their dreams to continue to find outlets that work for them. Whether it is dealing with mental health issues or dealing with life challenges in general, I want them to be able to find a safe space with their art to build community and to connect with themselves on a deeper level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I did experience homelessness with living in Airbnb’s along with living in homeless shelters along with different forms of abuse but I didn’t let that stop me from pursuing my career. During that time I was still doing showcases and working on sets and runways

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Some of the makeup that I specialize in as body pain, face paint, editorial, special effects, and beauty make up. I am most known for my body paint and face paint along with headpieces that I’ve made in costumes. I am most proud of my body paint in face mainly because it does take a lot of time, patience and energy that goes into it but the end result is always worth it. I would say what sets me apart from my peers is that I have never really been scared to step outside of the box when it came to trying different looks and different styles of makeup in fashion.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons that I have learned is to be persistent and to not give up on your dreams and your goals. Regardless of what happens in life, continue to stay focused on the dream and the vision that you have. While, yes it is good to take a break every once in a while it is still very important to remind yourself of why you started in the first place.
