Conversations with Natalie Safarian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Safarian

Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have definitely always been in tune with my creative side, but I had also always been too busy with my studies to even consider branching out to another field. During the rougher and lonelier days of the pandemic, I had started really getting into events and event design. My husband, who is a photographer, had obviously exposed me to the wedding and event industry and it had a heavy impact on my life. Halfway through my doctorate program, I decided it was finally time to pursue event planning and design on the side of my studies. It was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is the road ever smooth? Absolutely not. The beginning stages of the journey towards launching my own event planning company was humbling to say the least. I was impatient to jump into work, but was struggling to find a starting point. Luckily, I was surrounded by supportive friends and family who presented me with opportunities to work on their events which really helped me develop a portfolio. Another major bump in the road was a lack of a flexible schedule since I was also in the process of completing my doctorate program. Some days were more difficult than others, but the common theme throughout most days was simply that I felt that there were not enough hours in the day to execute all of my responsibilities. Although it was overwhelming, the journey has been fruitful and rewarding.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in event planning, coordination, and design. Often times, people think that event planning means simply designing an event, but that is definitely not the case. As soon as the client and I decide to move forward with working with each other, it’s show time. From day one, we work towards the final product: flawless execution. We do so much behind the scenes- from booking venues and vendors to collaboratively creating a seamless design and ensuring not a single logistic has gone unnoticed. The work load and stress factor can be heavy often times, but the feeling of successfully presenting an event to a client always outweighs the not-so-fun and not-so-glamourous aspects of my career.
I’ve been told that my design style sets me apart from others. I love funky and unique designs and I am wholeheartedly a “less is more” girl in every aspect of my work.
What I’m most proud of is my level of professionalism. My clients and their events are of utmost importance to me and my goal throughout the entire planning period is to maintain admirable levels of quality in every step of the process.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Value yourself and your work. It’s not just a social media post; there is a lot of work that goes behind executing a successful event. Value yourself so those who work with you value what you bring to the table in return.
