Conversations with Myla Beard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myla Beard

Hi Myla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Dream Big literally happened overnight. I’ve always loved doing Charcuterie and last Christmas did an 8 foot Ugly Sweater Christmas grazing table for our annual family party and over a dozen people asked if they could hire me. I started thinking about how I could turn my passion into something fun, fulfilling, and successful. I love themes, people call me the Theme Queen so I knew I still wanted to do themed Charcuterie boards but I thought how cool would it be to make individual charcuterie boards for events, customized for each person. I told a couple people about my idea and they said it was genius. I did some research, had a custom cart built, got licensed and insured, and started our social media. My goal was to book 1 event per month, immediately I was booking multiple per week and it hasn’t stopped since we opened on March 1, 2024. We now have 4 carts and 17 bar options. My love of parties helped us expand from not just a Charcuterie Bar but we now have other options such as a Beignet Bar, Sundae Bar, Nacho Bar, even a Caviar Bar and Floral Bloom Bar. We just keep growing and it has been so amazing. We are getting to work with some of the top event planners in Los Angeles and have been so fortunate to do Weddings, Mitzvahs, Quinceañeras, Corporate Events, Showers, Birthdays, Celebrity Events and more. We’ve got to work at the local Country Clubs, Vineyards, Wineries, and Mansions with million dollar views. It has truly been such an amazing journey and I am having a blast. One of the best parts is that the whole family is involved. We are a big family and it’s all hands on deck for every single event. This new business venture has brought us even closer as a family and that in itself is priceless. The continued success and beautiful events that we get to be a part of are the cherry on top. Dream Big was named after my daughter Dream who passed away at birth in 2014 so even the name is very special. I am so grateful, appreciative, and hopeful that we continue to grow, expand and succeed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been so extremely fortunate, it has been all smooth sailing thus far. I think the biggest struggle is keeping up with the quickly growing demand for our services.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say what sets me apart from other similar businesses is that I offer unique options and am always coming up with new innovative ideas. Although I specialize in Charcuterie and our Charcuterie Bar has been in high demand for Cocktail Hours, I love expanding. I recently added Cotton Candy to our menu but I didn’t want just plain Cotton Candy, so we added a Glitter option and a Glow option. Everything with an upscale vibe. I want our services to be an experience. I add customizations to every single event, and no two events are the same. I love details and I truly love a theme hence the nickname “Theme Queen”. I am so proud of where I started just 4 months ago and where I am now. I am most proud of this being a small family business built from the ground up with hard work and dedication.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
This entire business venture was a risk. I had no clue if people would be interested in a Charcuterie Bar and now I’m booking events into 2025. It’s mind blowing and sometimes I have to pinch myself. I’m having so much fun doing something that I love. I’d say there is no reward in life without a little risk. I took a leap of faith and it paid off. I would tell any other small business entrepreneurs to do the same. Go for it. I’m continually taking risks every day by investing into this business, buying more products, trying new things and coming up with more fun ideas. I’ve gone from a Charcuterie Bar to offering 17 different bar options including a Beignet Bar, Caviar Bar, Acai Bar, and the list just goes on and on and is always growing. I’m taking risks daily and always pushing the envelope trying to stand out and be unique in my business. For me, the reward far outweighed the risk but I definitely wasn’t sure if it was going to in the beginning. I am so glad that I stepped out on faith and am where I am now.
