Today we’d like to introduce you to Lomar Brown.
Hi Lomar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For as long as I can remember music has been a huge part of my life. I would spend my school night listening to my father play piano. Then at the age of 11 I received my first saxophone to start my own musical journey.
I would go on to play in multiple bands and programs throughout Middle School and High School in the Greater Hartford area. I would eventually gain acceptance to Berklee College of Music’s 2014 graduating class.
I currently live in NYC where I lead my own band; as well as playing in multiple projects and cultural events throughout the city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I will say there have been some struggles, especially during and post pandemic. I have had to deal with developing multiple streams of income, due to the massive cultural shift we have seen happen rapidly. But, life is not without struggle. I have found that as I have matured I’ve learned how to handle and prepare for a rainy day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I currently specialize in play saxophone for the people that hungry for music. This includes weddings, corporate events, festivals, ect.
In my musical journey I’ve been known to be a fun energetic showman. Playing in projects where we have to put on a show regardless of how you feel that day.
I am proud to share musical moments with people and move them to take action. I always try to find was to connect to my audience on and off stage. Taking that moment to connect is what music is all about to me.
And I think that a big thing that sets me apart, that extra level of care is essential.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
In my successes, I have found that being a someone pleasant to work with is equal to or even more important than my skill as a musician. I have been playing for 20+ year I have noticed that as the longer you are in this industry you realize everyone is really good. And thats great! But, this puts more importance on the content of your character.
