Conversations with Justin Henry Henry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Henry Henry.

Hi Justin Henry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A Journey of Redemption: From Darkness to Hope

Growing up in a dysfunctional family, my childhood was overshadowed by a mother frequently hospitalized for mental health issues and a father whose physical and verbal abuse left deep scars. I fell into the throes of drugs early on, both using and selling them, and by age 12, I was already in and out of jail. At just 14, I began a ten-year prison sentence, which would mark the beginning of a 33-year battle with addiction.

For 15 years, homelessness became my harsh reality, and many of my peers did not survive their struggles; some remain incarcerated for life, while others succumbed to addiction or violence. I often reflect on the grace of God that allowed me to break free from that path. In 2012, facing a potential life sentence, I found a way out—by the grace of God, I prevailed.

Today, I channel my experiences into uplifting others who face similar challenges. Through drug and alcohol prevention work, I create jobs and training programs for those emerging from homelessness, addiction, and incarceration, focusing on housing stability, employment, and financial literacy. My mission is clear: to turn my past struggles into a beacon of hope for others seeking to reclaim their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I faced unimaginable struggles, from the heartbreaking loss of my first child while I was incarcerated to the tragic death of a dear friend found in an abandoned basement from gun violence. My baby brother overdosed from fentanyl after his release from jail, and I endured countless setbacks—moving between jail, homelessness, and precarious living situations. I’ve experienced violence, betrayal, and the pain of my children being caught in the crossfire of poor choices. Yet through it all, I am a survivor of this roller coaster ride, with a story and a voice that I hope can help others find their way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
