Conversations with Jessica Rivello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Rivello.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In spring of 2021, Tiny Paws Torrance started with two friends and a love for animals. Me (Jessica) and my rescue partner Viviana worked together at Plaza Del Amo Animal Hospital as a dog groomer and kennel attendant. There was never a shortage of cute little stray kittens that clients would bring into the hospital and we could never say no to taking one or two home to foster. After doing it a couple of times we both had the common interest to start a rescue since there are so many animals in need of rehabilitation. Over the last few years we have been able to rescue and adopt out almost 100 cats and counting. We have met so many new friends and amazing fosters who help us on our mission to rescue animals

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When doing animal rescue it’s never a smooth road. There is always so many ups and downs but the ups are what keep us going. One of the biggest struggles is funding to help pay for all of the vet bills. Also educating adopters on why the adoption fee is higher than what you would pay at a shelter. It cost us roughly $200-500 to fully vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, deworm, flea treat, felv/FIV test , and do a vet exam. That does not include if the animals are sick or need extra care or surgery.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
While we all have full time jobs during the day working with animals the rescue never stops. We always have cats, dogs, puppies, bunnies and reptiles. Basically anything with a heartbeat we will rescue. While we mainly focus on cats due to the overpopulation in our area we are known for taking in all kinds of different species. We are most proud of how far we have come in the last 4 years with the amount of adoptions we have done and the amount of amazing adopters who continue to support our efforts

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Compassionate, caring, patience and resilience, teamwork
