Conversations with Jacqueline Aguilar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Aguilar.

Hi Jacqueline, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I always found the mind fascinating but I I kept going back-and-forth between psychology, art history and anthropology. I decided to look out of the box and I finally found a career path that was right for me. I decided to pursue a career in social work. However, I would say about a year ago I finally honed in on what I consider as my purpose in life; helping people, especially when it relates to travel. As a mental health therapist I help people with depression, anxiety, fear, phobias and low self esteem. Seeing people start from a state of depression to entering a session with a smile is always gratifying. I also love to hear people travel the world and tell me, thank you for helping me create amazing stories, memories, and once in a lifetime encounters, it brings me utter joy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road, but the challenges and obstacles I have encountered have made me who I am today. I am glad I’ve struggled and at times chosen the hard way, but I can truly say I’m where I want to be..

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have worked in mental health and healthcare since 2013. Recently, I’ve decided to focus on helping people with fear of flying, traveling, phobias, as well as depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. I could say what sets me part as a mental health therapist is being my authentic self. I also love learning about each individual I work with, since they all have made me a better therapist.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My biggest risk was believing in myself and pursuing my dream of starting my own practice. Risks are scary but can also illustrate your strengths. I’m finally starting to see my own strengths and accomplishments from taking a risk. I am a very cautious risk taker, but I have learned so much about letting go of my fear.
