Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Vigil.
Hi Jacob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started in the town of Arvada Colorado. I was a little kid who’s first friends were cartoons. Everyday I would watch these shows and be able to escape the real world. In that time i was able to smile and laugh and forget every worry, and somehow I knew I wanted to do the same thing for others. Growing up I was always doing something performative such as choir, doing school plays, or making silly action movies on my cam corder. My life goals changed multiple times, from a quarterback for the Broncos to buy my mom a house when I was five, to a game developer, to an actor on Broadway. It wasn’t till middle school where I truly found my passion which was exactly what I was looking for as a kid, I found the art of voice acting.
Since then I studied voice over, watch every documentary, listen to every podcast, and practice any voice I could hear. After graduating high school I moved to California where I attended New York Film Academy for Acting for Film. There I got training in what makes a good actor and the business side of the industry. It wasn’t until 2019 where I got a random phone call from a for an audition to do my very first voice acting project. I almost didn’t go, but my girlfriend at the time practically said “you’re going, and if its a scam, then you’ll know for next time”. I can’t thank her enough, because that audition booked me my first role on Netflix as a Live Action English Dub Lead. During the pandemic, I graduated college with my Bachelors in Fine Arts from my living room, and had three English Dubbing projects on Netflix and joined the union of SAG-AFTRA.
In September of 2025, I was one step closer to that goal with booking a role in a anime called Secret of the Silent Witch. My very first animated role and I was over the moon! My first major step in animation. Now i’m still working towards that goal. I’m still going to classes, I’m still sending emails to get representation, And now I don’t want to just offer an escape for the next generation, I want to give laughter too.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The pandemic hit a lot of people in the industry and I was no exception, I had a couple projects once work started flowing in, but I had a dry spell for 2 years. In that time of no new auditions and no opportunities to perform, I had to keep myself busy and creative instead of just waiting by the phone. In that time I was taking classes, drafting up my own animated series I plan to pitch in the future, and sending email after email after email for representation. Without representation it’s very difficult to find work, even with the projects I’m grateful to have, my biggest struggle till this day is trying to sign with an agent or manager. I have done agent workshops, data base networking, and even cold calling and so far I haven’t had much luck.
When you’re SAG, auditions and projects that are non-union you’re not allowed to submit myself, and that was the only work I could find on the databases for voiceover for a while. If I wasn’t for directors i’ve worked with in the past, or referrals from other companies, I would’ve had a longer dry spell than 2 years.
Personally, life has changed drastically for me in the last 3 years I diagnosed with AUDHD, a disorder combination of ADHD and Autism. Being late diagnosed, it feels like you finally got the answers for all those questions you felt about yourself and why you felt so different. In that same breath you then start to go over every part of your life with this new information and try to make new pieces fit in the puzzle that you didn’t understand before. Someone said its like being born again, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s been a struggle for sure but with years of therapy and self discovery, it’s been getting better one step at a time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a voice actor. when I first got interested into voiceover, it was a pretty niche industry of acting. Now voice acting is known world wide. Most of my voice acting career is projects in Live Action English Dubbing. This is a form of voice acting where foreign films or tv shows are adapted and we record the translated dialogue in english. My first role was one of the lead characters name Victor in a dramatic thriller tv series from France called Mortel on Netflix. In my career I have had the privilege to recorded dubbing projects for streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, and Disney plus.
Though most of my professional work is in Live Action English Dubbing, I specialize in character work for animation. I’ve studied animation voice acting, and character performances since middle school. Ive taken classes with people who’s work I grew up with, and learned what makes a character so believable to an audience. Which I finally got to show in my first anime project!
my proudest achievement of my career so far is when I booked the role of Benjamin in the show Secret of the Silent Witch on CrunchyRoll!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
From the wise words of Rob Paulsen “Laughter is the best medicine, the best thing is you can’t OD and the refills are free” For as long as I could remember making people smile or laugh felt really good If someone was overwhelmed or having a rough day, I would want to make them laugh to feel better, even if it was my own expense. I do it because I know that feeling and if someone made me laugh or smile in that situation, it would feel better even if it was just for a minute. Any day I feel down or low about life I put on a comedy or a standup show and when I start to laugh, I can feel the weight on my shoulder get lighter and lighter.
My family and friends are a main source of my happiness. I’m very grateful to have such supportive and loving people in my corner. Though my family is in Colorado, I found another family out here with people I met in school, and day jobs who are also creative and have passions they’re pursuing too. I also have my cat Ruckus, and seeing him after coming home from work is always worth it.
Voice acting is a very freeing experience. It’s like everyday you feel like Clark Kent, just your average citizen walking amongst everyone else. The moment you step in the booth and you’re in front of the mic, you become superman! In that booth, you can create any character with no limits. Acting on camera, you are limited to what you look like. and your performance is more controlled for the camera. With voice acting you can play a knight, an alien, and old prospector in one day, and you can go as big or as controlled with your performance as you wish. It’s my safe space to let my creativity run wild.
