Conversations with Gabrielle Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Perez.

Hi Gabrielle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was introduced to astrology passively when I was very little, helping my mom restock children’s toys in a local business while astrology talks were happening in the next room. I remember hearing the astrologer, Rosie Finn, talk about the energy of the planets and the effects that we would all be experiencing. I was fascinated. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I my family gifted me my first reading. Being born into a family of esoteric contemplatives, it wasn’t uncommon in our home to discuss topics related to the mysterious, the occult, or matters related to the unconscious. I was a very observant child, filled with curiosity about the human condition. I wanted to understand the “why” of everything, never accepting traditional norms or values at a surface level. My interests led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, followed by a career in various mental health settings where our collective shadows take form, make noise, and seek healing or escape. Unanswered questions led me to study plant medicine, Reiki, astrology, and other forms of intuitive energy healing. Today, I blend my therapy background and intuitive practice to offer astrology consultations that support people in navigating challenging life transitions, uncertainty, and blocks, in order for them to more clearly align with a life that reflects their most authentic self-expression.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardest part has been building my own confidence and moving through “imposter syndrome.” Astrology has always been a field that has had to deal with skeptics and those wishing to minimize the validity and backed by thousands of years of research and study. Because of this I started out offering practice sessions for friends, spending weeks with their charts, pouring over my books, and examining every planet, placement, and aspect. I’d end up with pages of notes and completely overwhelming people with information. Beyond my tendency to over-research, I also felt paralyzed by the sheer number of different schools and lineages within astrology — Hellenistic, Vedic, Evolutionary, Uranian, Humanistic, Esoteric, and so many others, all with their own teachers, classes, literature, and interpretations. Over time, I’ve found my own voice, perspective, and way of relating to astrology. This has allowed me to step into this work with authenticity and confidence. These days my sessions are much more intuitively led, and I blend my background in counseling to offer astrology in a therapeutic form.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a therapeutic astrologer, blending my background in mental health counseling with my astrology studies to support people as they navigate the human experience, one that’s often filled with suffering, confusion, and pivotal crossroads. I specialize in helping people understand their unique way of being in the world: their personal lens, patterns, and emotional landscape. From there, we can unpack challenges, recognize innate gifts, and explore how current transits are inviting them to evolve areas of life that feel stuck or limiting. My goal is always to help people move toward a more authentic and empowered version of themselves.

I’m most known for my podcast, The Astro-Attunement Podcast, which I co-host with my friend and yoga teacher, Kristi Lyons. Together, we blend astrology and yoga philosophy to help people align with the energy of each season, understanding what’s in flow, what’s being blocked, and how to move through life with more intention and alignment.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about the city is being close to my family. Beyond that, I love the sunshine, the incredible food, and the diversity. I loved visiting my grandparents house and picking citrus fruit in the backyard, or going to the beach and feeling the immensity of the ocean.

What I like least is how spread out everything is and how dependent you have to be on a car compared to other major cities. It can make getting around feel tiring and disconnected at times.
