Today we’re excited to be connecting with Dominique Deed again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Dominique, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
For those who have not read my story before, I am a self published book author. I am a single mom making it happen, telling my story one blog at a time. Trying to share my story with other mothers, who are trying to balance the realities of life with the hard work of parenting.
I was recently freed from a mentally & emotionally abusive situation and have now re-gained focus on creating multiple streams of income & allowing myself to fully enjoy all that life has to offer.
Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Since I was last interviewed, the biggest thing was having to find myself and who I am all over again.
Being freed from a toxic & mentally/verbally abusive relationship is such a freeing experience. I was so held down by this situation. I completely lost myself. I started to lose weight, I had forgotten the things that made me happy & who I was. I had simply forgotten who I was in the previous years. I was so unhappy, consistently crying, emotional, couldn’t sleep – always on edge. Just such an unhealthy space in my life. I had prayed and asked God to free me & I told myself I could not afford to do my life in the same way for the new year & he did just that – he freed me.
I am excited for this new year to come. I have been able to truly re-experience who I am as a person, the love I have for life and the small things. I have been able to focus on my healing, focus more on my son, my friends and new relationships. I am going to chase after becoming a journalist as I have wanted to for years. I may start working to be in commercials or some sort of acting. Life can take me anywhere at this point. The amount of peace I have achieved in this time, is something I cannot describe.

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
I choose this question because toxic relationships can be addicting and as much as I knew that I needed to be free of this situation it was a tough choice nonetheless. The secret to making and sticking to the tough choices is to start one hour at a time. I decided to get back into reading healthy, self improvement books & listening to my podcasts & that was huge. Make one healthy decision at a time, focus on the end result for that day. Don’t look at where you want to be with this rough decision in the next year. For me, I had to focus on the productivity I wanted to have throughout the day, and by the end of the day I was accomplishing most of the items on my list and finding that I didn’t have time to sit in my negative thoughts and get in my feelings. Focus on bettering yourself, and creating a healthy pattern for your life and those hard decisions will be easier to manage & stick to.
