Conversations with Cyrus Saidi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyrus Saidi

Hi Cyrus, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my entrepreneurial journey in 1998 as a rave promoter, organizing all-night dance music events in Canada that were initially deemed illegal. I had recently dropped out of college, leaving a business degree unfinished, driven by a passion for film. My background, having migrated from a dictatorial country, fueled my commitment to freedom of expression and the rave scene, culminating in the production of Canada’s first fully legal dance concert.

My next adventure took me to Japan, where my partner and I played a role in shaping Tokyo’s vibrant after-hours house music scene. After several happy accidents, I returned to North America with a dream of managing a DJ/Producer. A few grueling years later, that DJ became world-class, and I built a profitable music management company.

My passion for film never waned. While managing the company, I self-studied and created short films. Eventually, after a decade in DJ management, I moved to LA to make my first feature film, a documentary on the genesis and culture of electronic music. Titled “What We Started,” the film featured major artists like Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Usher, Carl Cox, and Moby. It was well-received by both industry and fans and was eventually picked up by Netflix.

Around this time, I started a new management company focused on diverse talents beyond DJs. I am now running that company, dedicated to serving incredible artists in whom I passionately believe.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Struggles all the way through… I sometimes feel like its a curse, but every time I overcome a struggle, I realize what a blessing it is, as its the perfect way to grow. Perhaps some may not have as many struggles as others and I assume that is their journey, perhaps they were raised and educated in ways which made them better equipped… me no… I had to learn the hard way!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known among my peers as someone who truly understands what artists need, whether it’s creative guidance, reassurance, or helping them reconnect with their passions when they feel dimmed.

As a manager, one must wear many hats: therapist, accountant, negotiator, friend, marketer, and more. There’s no college course that teaches the A-Z of talent management, and I take pride not only in my work but also in the dedication of many managers in the business.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was just obsessed with Movies and Music… and its not surprise that my two passions in life and my professions have become Manager and Filmmaker.
