Conversations with CL White

Today we’d like to introduce you to CL White.

Hi CL, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually fell into fashion. I got my start assisting a well-established friend of mine who was working on Love & Hip Hop when the show had just entered its second season. At the time, she was styling Mona Scott-Young and Yandy Smith.

I reached out to her about working with her. We went to dinner to talk about the opportunity, and the very next day I was on set. From that point on I’ve been building my career in fashion ever since

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. In fact, it’s been anything but. There have been so many obstacles along the way—both good and bad. If I’m being honest, I’d say there have probably been more bad than good. But in the end, it all worked out for the better because I don’t believe in failures. I believe every setback comes with a lesson, and every lesson has helped shape the person and creative I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do is image consulting, and styling is a big part of that. To me, styling is about much more than just the clothes. It’s about creating a complete image. Once the wardrobe is selected, I think about how the hair, makeup, and every other detail come together to create one cohesive look. I want everything to work collectively so the final result feels intentional, polished, and authentic.

I wouldn’t say I specialize in just one area. I work with both men and women, and I feel equally confident consulting and styling for both. Every client is different, and I enjoy helping each person develop an image that reflects who they are.

One of my proudest accomplishments is simply that I’m still here doing what I love. I’ve been able to support myself through my creativity for the past 10 years, and that’s something I never take for granted. Building a lasting career in this industry isn’t easy, so I’m proud that I’ve continued to grow, evolve, and remain successful.

I think I’m best known for my editorial work with Essence and for the time I spent working with Beyoncé. Those experiences helped shape my career and introduced my work to a broader audience.

What sets me apart is my authenticity. I’m genuine with myself and with the people I work with. I value loyalty, professionalism, and building real relationships. People enjoy working with me because they know they’re getting someone who cares, who does great business, and who is committed to delivering the best possible result every time.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My hustle and drive to continue
