Conversations with Cessalie Haro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cessalie Haro

Hi Cessalie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I launched my Old Goat Charcuterie business in December 2020, during the pandemic. As you may recall, many of us were home with plenty of time on our hands. I’ve always loved cheese, charcuterie, and wine, and I’ve been enamored with the artful display of food. So, six months pregnant and amidst a global pandemic, I decided to start my business.

I began by posting on my social media pages, and the initial response was incredibly positive, which encouraged me to pursue it further. I started with pop-up events and shared my offerings on local community pages. This led to hosting charcuterie classes and organizing larger events at a local brewery.

The past few years have been a blessing, and it’s been heartwarming to see how the community supports its local small businesses. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Old Goat Charcuterie.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s definitely been some challenges. Starting a business just months before the arrival of my firstborn was exhausting. My schedule was constantly changing during that first year as I navigated motherhood, family life, and running a business. But luckily, I have a supportive husband and family who helped tremendously with getting orders done, and to assist with babysitting. It really does take a village.

There has also been a lot of trial and error. Learning to be patient with myself has been another hurdle to overcome. I am my biggest critic, and with every order I create, I’m constantly pushing myself to do better. In reality, my art is never finished, which is one of the reasons I really enjoy what I do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Living in a time filled with social media and trends, charcuterie has definitely become one of them. There are so many cute, wonderful, and playful twists when it comes to creating this beautiful food art—it’s hard not to love them all. But what I like to focus on with my charcuterie is keeping it simple, classic, and sticking to what pairs well together, honoring the original. There’s so much you can add to a grazing table, but keeping it classic and bountiful is where I like to think I specialize.

Surprisingly, my charcuterie cones have become my most popular item! When I first launched them, I didn’t expect them to take off, but they’ve been a huge hit and continue to be a fan favorite. I’ve even made 800 cones for a single event! At this point, they’re definitely one of my proudest creations.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
When I started Old Goat Charcuterie, it was just a passion project—a way to bring people together over good food and creative pairings. What I didn’t expect was how much joy and connection it would spark, not just for me but for everyone who enjoys what I create. Each board and cone is more than just a snack; it’s a little celebration of life’s moments, big and small. Watching this business grow has reminded me that when you put heart into your craft, amazing things can happen.
