Conversations with Carleigh Hyser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carleigh Hyser.

Carleigh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi! I’m Carleigh Hyser. I do graphic design and photography for musicians as well as illustration and painting. I’m from Georgia but I’ve been living in California for almost three years now.

I went to the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and a Music Business Certificate. During that time, I worked with Georgia Football for three years as a graphic designer and sidelines photographer. After I graduated, I moved to California to work as a graphic designer for Athletes First, an NFL sports agency.

However, I always knew that I wanted to work in music. So, after 5 years in sports, I left to work for LiveNation on a long term contract job as a graphic designer. I got to design tour posters for some of the biggest names in music as well as some of my personal favorites such as Cage the Elephant and Everclear to name a few.

After LiveNation I had enough money saved up to pursue something I’ve been longing for since the beginning… my own business! Presently, I run Carleigh Hyser Creative Studio where I help independent musicians elevate their image and world build through graphic design, photography, illustration and painting.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road is never smooth for creatives. In a business centered world the odds always stacked against us! This is intensified for any entrepreneur.

You’ve got to figure out how to keep track of money, expenses, taxes, get your LLC… basically make sure you’re doing everything legal. Then there’s figuring out how to get clients, finding your audience, advertising, and keeping constant on social media. I’m part artist, financial planner, marketer, and content creator. With so many responsibilities it can definitely feel overwhelming at times!

And then lastly, staying motivated is tricky sometimes. Now that I’m on my own, I don’t have anybody above me to tell me what to do, only myself. And on the other hand, I am constantly working… I don’t often clock completely out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
With all the challenges that come to running my own business, I’m most proud of myself for taking the leap to do it. I know that I’m in the right place because I love what I’m doing. It energizes me and fuels me; I rarely feel that I’m in a creative rut. I’m also constantly learning and growing.

Beyond working hard and getting the job done, what sets me apart from others is that I am extremely personable. Clients often tell me I have great energy and they feel very comfortable around me. In turn, their vulnerability and openness allows me to capture their true essence in each project. I am lucky that each client I work with is able to trust me with their vision in confidence and know that I will be able to execute properly.
