Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Sewell.
Hi Brett, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in London, and from a young age I loved to dance, being on stage, listening to music, and watching music videos, constantly inspired by artists. That early passion quickly became my purpose, and to now be working with some of those same artists has truly been a dream come true.
I didn’t come from much, but I had a clear vision and a strong work ethic, and I committed fully to pursuing that. Over time, that dedication opened doors I once only dreamed of. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with artists such as Janet Jackson, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Busta Rhymes, and more, performing on some of the biggest stages around the world.
Alongside performing, teaching has always been a big part of my journey. I’m passionate about giving back and supporting the next generation, so I regularly teach, mentor, and share my experience with young dancers who are where I once was.
More recently, I’ve continued expanding my career internationally. I’ve built a social media platform with over 500,000 followers, where my dance work has reached millions globally, and I’ve just secured a teaching residency at Playground LA in Los Angeles. I’ve also booked a major artist project, which marks another exciting step forward.
Right now, I’m in the process for an O-1 visa to take that next step in my career and continue building internationally. For me, it’s all part of the same journey, from growing up in London with a dream, to taking those roots onto the global stage, while staying connected to the community that shaped me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, my journey has been a real rollercoaster. With every high, there have been lows. I’ve faced rejection, comparison, and moments where I didn’t feel good enough, or felt like I had to be a certain way to fit in.
As a dancer, it’s easy to fall into the trap of constantly comparing yourself to others and chasing perfection. But I’ve learned that a lot of that is just noise, distractions that can pull you away from what really matters. Your mind can sometimes take over and let doubt creep in, but when you stay grounded in what you love and keep your focus, you learn to move through it.
Growing up, I always felt like I had something special when I danced, I felt free, but I wasn’t always the one people picked out straight away. I had to work harder, and at the time that was tough. But looking back, I’m grateful for it, because it built my work ethic and shaped me into who I am today.
There were also moments where I was put forward for opportunities but told I didn’t fit the mould, for example, being told I was “too tall” at a young age. Hearing things like that when all you want to do is be on stage can be difficult. But those experiences gave me resilience. Instead of letting them stop me, I used them as fuel to push myself further in my training and growth.
I missed out on jobs, TV shows, and commercials because I didn’t fit a certain image, but I’ve come to realise that not fitting a mould can actually be your strength. It allows you to carve your own path and become something unique, rather than trying to be what others expect.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a full-time professional dancer, specialising in live performance with artists across stage, TV, and film, as well as teaching and mentoring. I’ve been dancing since I was six years old, and from a young age I knew exactly what I wanted, to be on stage, supporting artists, travelling the world, and making an impact through what I do.
Over the years, that vision has become my reality. I’ve built a career performing on major stages globally, while also developing a strong presence in the digital space, with over half a million followers on social media. Through that, I’ve been able to reach people all over the world, sharing my passion for dance and connecting with others in a really meaningful way. Being able to combine my professional career with that platform has been incredibly special.
What I’m known for is my versatility and presence. I see myself as a creative chameleon, someone who can adapt, shift, and fully embody different styles, artists, and creative visions. That ability to move between worlds, while still staying true to myself, is something I take a lot of pride in.
More than anything, I’m proud of the fact that I’ve stayed authentic throughout my journey. This industry can be intense, with a lot of highs and lows, but I’ve remained grounded in who I am. I’ve built strong relationships and a positive reputation within the industry not just for my work, but for how I show up as a person.
Of course, I’m proud of the opportunities and the work I’ve been part of, but what means the most to me is being able to do what I love at a high level, stay true to myself, and continue growing while inspiring others along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
That’s a great question, because a lot of my friends say I’m the luckiest person alive, things always seem to work out for me, and everything seems to fall into place at the right time.
And yes, I do believe there’s an element of luck in that. I feel very lucky that I get to do what I love every single day. But I also see it as the result of years of hard work, consistency, and alignment.
What people sometimes see as “luck” now is actually built on a lot of moments where things didn’t work out, rejection, missed opportunities, and challenges that helped shape me. I believe those moments were necessary so that things could eventually fall into place the way they’re meant to.
There have definitely been times where I’ve thought, “I’m so lucky this happened,” but I’ve learned to reframe that as: this is what my hard work, patience, and consistency have led to.
I don’t really believe in bad luck. I believe that what’s meant for you won’t pass you. Everyone has their own path, and for me it’s about trusting the process, staying aligned with what I love, and knowing that everything happens at the right time.
