Conversations with Alicia Gakima

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Gakima.

Hi Alicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I came out to Los Angeles for school studying film and theatre. After school I decided I didn’t want to just be an actor I wanted to be involved in the entire experience. Meaning producing, writing, directing. That’s how I started creating my own content.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! It’s been a very chaotic road. A lot of ups and downs, but that’s life. You have to learn to adapt and ride the wave.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a filmmaker, actor, social media content creator! I’m a horror filmmaker. I’m most proud of my first horror short Man In The Moon which premiered on GenreTV. I think my ability to understand there are multiple possibilities and multiple perspectives for anything I want to create gives me the ability to think big. I’m not set in my ways when it comes to creativity. I welcome all different way of seeing my art.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think you have to take risks in this industry if you want to get anywhere. I decided to take a risk and bet on myself when it came to creating my own web series and films. I knew I had great ideas and decided to put them out there. An opportunity to pitch my horror filmmaker ideas to Fox Studios came up just because I decided to create a web series with a few horror episodes. My preparation with that web series met opportunity with Fox Studios.
