Conversations with the Inspiring Tyease Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyease Turner.

Tyease, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Built brand since 2015, I went away to college in 2013. I struggled financially and emotionally being away from my family so I wanted to go back home after only a year. During that time, I started to do hair in the dorms. I decided I like doing hair when I go home, I’ll do some hair for extra money. I came back home in 2015 had to wait to start cosmetology school because the class was full the first time. I never gave up though. Got into Cosmetology school 2015 and started building my clientele. Start working in a salon in 2016.

Own studio near LAX since Feb. 2017. Graduated in June.

•12.4k followers on Instagram.
•Styled for weddings, fashion shows, award shows (Emmys, bet awards, etc., movies South Central Love and Loyalty by Christina Cooper and photo shoots.
•Released very own Whippedbyty merchandise like the touch-up kits to help maintain whippedbyty weave installs in June 2019 which sold out completely!
•First whippedbyty ponytail class was a success, five students, hands-on Nov 2019.
•Determined to follow her dreams and inspire others to do the same.
•Likes to travel and experience life with family and friends.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle was my confidence at first. When I first started to do hair, many people took me as a joke. Like it was something that I was just doing on the side not knowing, I actually have a plan to make more out of it. What made my confidence go up with doing hair was to KEEP ON SLAYING. People in my city started to know me for doing hair… SLAYINGGGGG HAIR! It took for me to recognize that I actually have the talent and after I finished my schooling, nobody could tell me anything!! My confidence is through the roof when it comes to my BUSINESS.

Another struggle for me is time management when it comes to my personal life and expanding my business. I spend so much time working on my craft and building my clientele, I find it hard to have a personal life and to expand my business. It’s very easy to get comfortable and stay in the same place. My planner helps me organize business and personal so I could check off all my mini goals and BIG goals.

What should we know about Whippedbyty? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am LOS ANGELES HAIRSTYLIST TYEASE A.K.A. WHIPPEDBYTY who specializes in weaves, ponytails, and whippin those baby hairs! I’m honestly known for slicking edges! I make my clients feel beautiful and teach them how to maintain their beauty. I’m very proud that I am young, talented, and I still have a ways to go: I enjoy telling my story to give others the confidence to follow their dreams. Conversations at my salon suite are very motivating and we learn from each other: that sets me aside from many hairstylists, we grow together emotionally and I GROW THEIR HAIR. It’s a win-win situation. Positive vibes only.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important advice I could give to anyone starting their career is to do what you love, be different, be you, be teachable, be the person you always wanted to be. People don’t want to see the replica of someone else, they love you for being yourself! Don’t ever stop! Someone is watching you in amazement RIGHT NOW! You are inspiring.
