Conversations with the Inspiring Melissa Wood-Tepperberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Wood-Tepperberg.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this work initially from being in the worst physical, mental and emotional state of my life. I suffered from cystic acne all over my face, an eating disorder and was constantly comparison myself with everyone else. I treated my body awful, spoke to myself in a very negative way and was living a life of restricting calories and working out two hours minimum a day. My business was created when I started taking better care of myself and tapping into things in my life that made me feel more whole as a person. With sharing my meditations, plant-based recipes and slow, controlled movements through my method (MWH method), I’ve not only cultivated a healthy way of life through my 3 M’s (meditation, movement and mindful eating), I’m able to share this with others going through similar struggles.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. It has been quite bumpy and continues to be, but I think that’s where you learn and grow. It’s through the challenges where you strengthen as a business and learn how to deal with situations in an effective, non-reactive way. The truth is, I keep learning as I continue to build my business. My advice is when something seems really scary, lean into it because those are the situations that build you as a person and business. For example, when I was in the process of leaving an app where I shared my workouts to move everything into my own platform, it scared the shit out of me. I knew in my heart that’s where the most growth potential for my business and my soul was and that’s when everything expanded for me. When I moved into what scared and challenged me the most. Keep going and don’t stop.

What should we know about Melissa Wood Health? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m the creator of Melissa Wood Health and the MWH method which is a series of slow, controlled movements through yoga and pilates style principles to create long, lean lines through your entire body. I now exclusively share all my workouts on my website, melissawoodhealth.com where 12 workouts (plus bonus workouts and meditations) are available to you at all times. I update new workouts every Sunday night with a recommended weekly schedule to help you achieve maximum results.

Having the ability to connect with people all over the world and hearing the stories of the impact my work has made in so many peoples lives is the best feeling. The feedback I get from people is what keeps me going. I’m proud that I followed through with something that lit me up and seeing it light others up is the most satisfying feelings. I’m proud that I actually went for it in a world where your thoughts can hold you back, it’s important to really follow through.

I think what sets me apart is I have a very gentle approach to working with people and in a realistic amount of time. My workouts are gentle and effective anywhere from 20-30min, sometimes longer or shorter. You don’t have to pound yourself into the ground to have the body you desire.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
There’s space for all of us. Let your uniqueness lead the way because there’s no one else out there like you even if they’re doing something in a similar field. Surround yourself with supportive people that inspire and motivate you. You can’t do everything yourself, so do what you’re really good at and find people for your team to compliment where you fall short.
