Today we’d like to introduce you to Mahi Pasha.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was a child, I had a natural desire and talent for design and culinary art. After getting my degree in an unrelated field, I decided to follow my passion and attended IDI Design School in Newport Beach and got my certificate in interior design in 2003. I have always been known to through luxurious parties at our house and friends and families kept asking for my help arranging their events and parties. I decided to get into Persian wedding ceremony design (Sofreh Agd) which is a traditional wedding ceremony arrangement and from there expanded to flower, appetizer, cheese, dessert tables.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like every other startup business, I started with packing the back of my car with materials and working long hours and hard to get my name out there. Nature of my business is events on weekends and nights and working all mornings into one or two AM the next day was an average work day. My advice to anyone that wants to get into this line of work is the first and foremost have the passion for the type of work because this requires long hard hours of planning, shopping for new and elevating materials and creating design ideas. I recommend finding a mentor and learning techniques and strategies before thinking about starting their own businesses.
What should we know about Design by Mahi? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I believe if there is one word that describes what I do is “attention to details.” My specialty includes setting up elaborate and luxurious cheese tables, enervating appetizer tables full of fusion style delicacies, traditional or contemporary tea and sweets table, arranging dinner tables and flowers and of course, Persian wedding ceremony arrangement. I help people create special event parties to celebrate unforgettable memories and happy moments.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I have always looked up to my mother and have found inspiration on how hard she worked and a perfect house she has always kept. I also follow some of the top designers around the world and work with some of the top talented women partners that help create unique arrangements and designs. I admire strong independent women who have worked hard to accomplish unbelievable creations all around the world.
