Community Highlights: Meet Trent Slatton of Stagg Street Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Slatton.

Trent, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Stagg Street studio opened its doors in 1986.
Founded by Gary Denton & Melody Carpenter, it was the third incarnation of a recording studio that they initially started in a bedroom, upon arriving here from Texas in the mid 1970’s.
Since opening, Stagg Street Studio was quickly established as a world recording facility that serves all genres of music and was built for live ensemble recording.
Housing what has now become extremely sought after vintage recording equipment, paired with excellent acoustics and a passionate & knowledgeable staff, the continuing focus of Stagg Street is excellent customer service within a safe, creative and inspiring environment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No Road is always smooth. When the last of the founders passed away, Trent Slatton took over the business in order to carry on the rich legacy that Gary & Melody created. The main struggles have bee dealing with all of the deferred maintenance of the building and exposing this wonderful space to a new generations of musicians and composers.

We’ve been impressed with Stagg Street Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in capturing the performances of artists of all genres of music. We are know for our inviting, comfortable and vibe-rich environment which is a safe place to fully express yourself. We have accumulated a lifetime of vintage of recording equipment that would be extremely hard for an independent artist to assemble in one place. We’re most proud of the feeling people get when they enter our space, and of the people who work here to help them achieve their creative vision.
Whether it’s a single vocal recording, or a 18 piece big band, we have you covered. If you need help composing your songs and taking it to completion, we can help with that too.
We have accommodated artist and projects from all genres. From Johnny Cash to John Mayer, from Rock and Jazz to TV and Film scores. If it can be recorded, we’ve likely done it……with great service!

How do you think about luck?
I was lucky enough to inherited this business from my mentors, however, it was my caring for the place, and the people that created that “luck”, if you want to call it that. I prefer to think that I manifested it from love of the place and people.
