Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie and Izzy Uwins.
Hi Sophie and Izzy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At school, we were forever switching between pencils and highlighters when annotating textbooks and reading Scholastic News articles. It was slowing us down. One day we came up with a simple hack to combine them by scotch taping a highlighter to a pencil. When we showed our parents our hack to get work done faster, they tried to get us a real product that would do the same thing. But it didn’t exist. So, we decided to design one ourselves. The Annotator was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, there were struggles…as with any business. Initially, when our prototype pencil came back, we weren’t happy with it, so we almost gave up, but we learned to be patient and revised the prototype ten times till we got it right.
Also, we realized that when we are at Trade Shows, we do really well and nearly everyone that comes by our booth and orders. But we’ve found it harder to market online, and it’s become much more expensive, so we’ve been doing a number of local pop-ups, which have been going well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SOZY Pencils?
We specialize in creating unique stationery products designed for students to be more efficient and productive.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love collaboration opportunities! We welcome any ideas and are particularly interested in creating some custom art/ patterns/designs to print on the cover of journals as our signature style.
