Community Highlights: Meet Sheila Marshall of Yogattainable

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Marshall.

Sheila Marshall

Hi Sheila, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Where I’ve been and how I hope I can help others on their health journey in my early teenage years, I felt lost! I had so much trauma that at the time could not identify. I found drugs to be a way of life to be “happy” and not have to feel the pain and insecurities.

Fast forward, those drugs no longer helped but added more burden to my life not to mention compromising my mental and physical health.

I was always active, growing up at the beach (Santa Monica & Venice) skating, doing acrobatics, swimming in the ocean. Which was a gift my mother displayed and made an active lifestyle accessible to me living at a beach front apartment.

Teaching accessible yoga has blessed me and others to connect the mind and body. To be more intuitive with where the body is holding on to stress and how to tame the mind from getting so anxious.

Being physically strong has taught me that I can do hard things. Knowing how to cope with stress, rest well, and eating food to fuel my lifestyle.

I decided to become a nutrition coach and hormone specialist so that I can help others reach their potential and thrive. With my extensive background as an addiction specialist, it makes perfect sense how this all comes together as it relates to getting healthy mentally and physically. Food and drugs were a source to help me avoid, numb, feel comfort, and find connection with others. Now I have a healthy relationship with food which has given me healthy connections with friends and family.

I love what I do and love watching others become healthy from the inside out!

It’s never too late to change your career path.

You are never too old to get healthy!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some challenges I have faced while being an entrepreneur is believing in myself and what I am doing because it has been tough getting started in my yoga business (Yogattainable) which I launched the idea into motion January 2020. Yes, Covid hit us all. I was able to start teaching accessible yoga at a detox treatment center during “lock down”. During this time, I also started teaching accessible yoga online to residents at an assistant living facility which now has become a regular class in person 3 times a week for different phases of that facility.

We’ve been impressed with Yogattainable, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Today I continue to teach accessible yoga to private clients online and several facilities in Pasadena CA. I am also an online nutrition life coach helping busy professionals over 40 get healthy so they can continue to pour into others. I have always been chasing diet fads to find the solution to not being hungry “hangry” all the time to keep excess weight off. I got tired of the chase and hired a nutrition coach and shortly after went to school to become a Nutrition Life Coach myself. My program focuses on restoring people’s metabolism, gut health and balancing hormones. In a world full of stress and busy schedules, being healthy can be very challenging for people.

My program is structured to help clients implement healthy lifestyle integrations in all aspects of life, so they can have healthy coping skills and proper nutrition to fuel their lifestyle. This is not a cookie cutter program; I utilize my extensive background as a Certified Addiction specialist (CADC’CAS) to not only counsel clients to find healthier coping skills instead of abusing drugs and or alcohol but also emotional eating.

I find great pleasure in equipping clients to learn and implement the tools necessary to keep their glass full so they can continue to pour into others.

Alright, so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am really excited about having this opportunity to display my skills into a broader spectrum so that those who desire a healthier lifestyle will have the access thanks to the Voyage LA Magazine following.
