Community Highlights: Meet Rochele Jones of Royalty Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rochele Jones.

Hi Rochele, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is really one of resilience, reinvention, and purpose.

I’ve experienced some things in life that could have easily defined me, but instead, I decided to use those experiences as a foundation to build something different. After going through reentry and having to rebuild my life, I learned how important it is to believe in yourself, even when you don’t have a roadmap or a lot of support.

I started building my career through entrepreneurship. I’m the founder and owner of Royalty Creations, where I’ve spent more than 10 years specializing in crochet and protective hairstyling. What started as a beauty business grew into something much bigger for me—it became a way to connect with women, educate, mentor, and create confidence.

At the same time, I became deeply involved in my community. I’ve served as Vice President of Pasadena Black Pages for more than 10 years, where I’ve helped create visibility for Black-owned businesses and connect entrepreneurs with the community. I’ve also been a longtime GirlTrek organizer, creating spaces for Black women to focus on wellness, sisterhood, movement, and self-care.

I’m also an author. I wrote Pieces of Me and Bruised, But Not Broken, using my own experiences to talk about resilience, restoration, personal growth, and starting over.

Today, I really see myself as a connector and a builder. Whether it’s through my business, my books, community work, or mentoring, I enjoy creating opportunities and helping people recognize what’s possible for themselves.

I’ve gone from simply trying to rebuild my own life to creating a life where I can help other people rebuild theirs. And honestly, that’s what brought me to where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve experienced setbacks, financial challenges, having to rebuild from the ground up, and moments when I had to figure things out without a roadmap or a lot of support.
But honestly, those struggles shaped me. They taught me resilience, how to adapt, how to keep showing up when things don’t go as planned, and how to turn difficult experiences into purpose.
There were plenty of times I could have stopped, but I kept going. Every challenge became part of the story I’m able to tell today. And now, when I connect with other Black business owners, I understand that there’s usually a much deeper story behind the business than what people see on the surface

As you know, we’re big fans of Royalty Creations . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Royalty Creations is a beauty brand built around helping women feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable in their own crown. I specialize in crochet hair installations, particularly seamless, natural-looking crochet styles that create the illusion of hair growing directly from the scalp. I’ve been perfecting my crochet technique for more than a decade, and I’m known as the “Crochet Queen” for a reason.
What sets Royalty Creations apart is the attention to detail. I’m not interested in just putting hair in — I want the finished style to look intentional, natural, and customized to the woman wearing it. My clients appreciate that I care about their hair, their overall experience, and making sure they leave feeling like the best version of themselves.
Royalty Creations has also grown beyond hair services into our own line of hair-care products. I offer hair oils, scalp sprays, hair butter, shampoos, and other essentials designed to help women maintain their hair and scalp between appointments and properly care for their protective styles.
Our products are created with maintenance and moisture in mind. They help keep the scalp nourished, hair moisturized, and protective styles looking and feeling fresh between appointments. Whether you wear crochet, braids, locs, or your natural hair, the goal is to make caring for your crown easier while supporting a consistent hair-care routine.
I also educate. Through my crochet classes and hair education, I teach other stylists the techniques I’ve developed so they can elevate their skills, create better experiences for their clients, and grow their own businesses.
I’m most proud of building Royalty Creations into something bigger than a salon service. It’s a beauty brand, an educational platform, and a reflection of my creativity, entrepreneurship, and commitment to helping women take pride in their crowns.
I want your readers to know that behind the beautiful installs and products is a Black woman who built her brand through consistency, creativity, relationships, and believing in her ability to create something different. Royalty Creations is about more than hair — it’s about crowns, confidence, education, and creating opportunities.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a leader. I’ve always had a business mindset, even before I really understood what entrepreneurship was. I was the type of person who could see something and immediately start thinking about how to make it bigger, better, or different.
I grew up with my parents and my little sister, and I was definitely a dreamer. I loved to read, I had a big imagination, and I was always creating things in my head and thinking about what my future could look like. I was curious, independent, outspoken, and always had my own ideas.
I think I’ve always had that entrepreneurial spirit in me. I didn’t necessarily have all the answers, but I had the vision. I could see possibilities, and I wasn’t afraid to dream beyond what was right in front of me.
Looking back now, I can see that so much of who I am today was already there as a little girl — the leader, the dreamer, the reader, the creator, and the woman who was always thinking bigger. I just had to grow into her.
