Today we’d like to introduce you to Rami Dunham.
Hi Rami, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Rami Dunham. I am a Syrian-American photographer, artist, and entrepreneur currently based in Los Angeles, California. I graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Film Production.
In 2015, I founded the streetwear brand Amour Inc. with my older brother, Taylor Dunham. We knew when we started Amour that we wanted to take a lighter approach to the often gritty nature of streetwear by promoting love and individuality. Driven by a passion for hip-hop, skateboarding, and streetwear culture, we wanted our brand to pride itself on authenticity and inclusiveness—bringing together like-minded people from all different backgrounds. A decade later, we still proudly operate by those same values as a grassroots, family-owned and operated brand.
More recently, my partner Ajá Komine, who graduated from Otis College of Art and Design and holds more than 8 years of Fashion Industry experience, has joined Amour as a lead designer and an all-around key component in pushing the brand forward—from design and sewing garments, all the way to social. In the past year, we’ve begun bringing the creative process in-house (quite literally) rather than outsourcing where we can. We currently run Amour out of our apartment here in Los Angeles and work on all of our collections with friends and family – from inception all the way to the point it hits the website.
To me, that is exactly what makes Amour beautiful and uniquely us. Since the brand’s beginning, we’ve made an effort to work with other artists through collaborations, modeling, photo/video, acting, or any way we can get young artists involved with the brand and showcase their talent. Amour would not be what it is today without the contributions and collaboration of our incredibly talented friends and family (same thing).
Just to name a few: Nick Miller, an LA-based photographer; Kyle Miller, an NJ-based director/editor; Magne Ndiaye, an NY-based model; Darius Moreno, an NY-based artist/entrepreneur; Simone Komine, a Hawaii-based photographer; Jake O’Neill, a Hawaii-based model; Rahm Bowen, an NY-based artist/entrepreneur; and Jimmy Guido, an NY-based graphic designer. The overwhelming support and collaboration from both mine and Ajà’s entire families—particularly our amazing nieces and nephews: Soleza, Luca, Luna, Ezra, Evan, Uriah, and Shiloh. Last but certainly not least, my mother, Tracy Dunham, for being a day-one supporter and confidant.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road over the past decade hasn’t always been smooth by any means, but we’ve been able to gain invaluable knowledge through trial and error.
Our earliest struggles we dealt with while starting a small business from the ground up were limited access to traditional resources and being independently run (no financial backing/investors). To combat this, we’ve learned how to be nimble and create with the assets available to us. It can take time and trust to source manufacturers who work in small quantities. While this can be limiting to the creative process, we’ve always found ways to innovate and keep creating. Over the years, we’ve learned workarounds to make samples, source wholesalers, and find vendors/business partners willing to work within our parameters.
In a sea of fast fashion and endless streetwear brands, it’s vital to our growth (and sanity) that we don’t compare ourselves to other brands and that we continue to move at our own pace, doing what works specifically for Amour.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our standout products at Amour are our Work Shirts, Hats, Hoodies and Accessories. We strive to ensure our products are wearable, affordable/accessible, and available in sizes for the whole family. In April of this year, we hosted a 10-Year Anniversary Pop-Up at Endless Noise, a vinyl-coffee shop (and recording studio) in Santa Monica. In the future, apart from digital releases, we want to continue to create more opportunities for our customers to come meet us and shop in physical spaces!
Our core brand ethos that separates Amour from other brands, is continuing to use our platform and voice to spread love and inclusivity. An important testament to this was our fundraising efforts in 2018 during the Syrian Civil War, a conflict affecting our family directly. We partnered with illustrator Joshua Clements to create our ‘Amour For Syria’ tees, where all profits were donated to Syrian Children’s Relief Fund.
Perhaps Amour’s biggest moment thus far came just about a year ago, in December 2024. Our “Take It Easy” Snapbacks were featured and sold globally on Free People online and in select stores domestically. Being a small business with only a few employees, this was such a validating and exciting moment to celebrate for our team. This was our first time stocked by a large retailer, and it taught us so much about scaling our business in a short time and what is possible in the future. A huge shoutout to Wes Campbell, our unofficial brand ambassador, as well as Emily Razzi and the Free People buying team for placing their trust in us and believing in our product!
With that being said, we’re extremely excited to announce that Free People will be selling our all-new “Moonlight” Snapback in Spring 2026 exclusively via their website, so be on the lookout!
