Community Highlights: Meet Mugdha Deshmukh of MGU Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mugdha Deshmukh.

Hi Mugdha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for design sparked when I was just 8 years old. I was drawn to a world where imagination had no limits and where colors, textures, and creativity came together to shape beautiful spaces and objects. My aunt, a talented interior designer and ceramic artist, played a pivotal role in shaping my passion for design. I would often see her work and visit her studio, completely mesmerized as I watched her bring ideas to life—blending creativity and craftsmanship to create stunning pieces. Her ability to transform the ordinary into something truly beautiful left a lasting impression on me.

By instinct, I was drawn to product design, but I ultimately enrolled in an interior design program—a decision that turned out to be a blessing in disguise and a true turning point in my life. The program not only taught me the fundamentals of structural design and space planning, but also allowed me to explore my passion for creating small pieces of furniture and decorative objects, blending form and function in meaningful ways.

Although I’ve been in the industry for over a decade—designing everything from corporate office spaces to residential projects—I still feel a surge of excitement every time I get off the phone with a potential client or step into an empty space brimming with possibilities. That sense of anticipation and creative energy continues to be my greatest motivation and driving force.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth—like any designer & business owner, I’ve faced my fair share of ups and downs. But I’ve come to see every hurdle as a valuable learning opportunity. I truly believe in the saying, failure teaches more than success—each challenge has only made me stronger and more resilient.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MGU Design?
I run an interior and furniture design studio specializing in residential, commercial, and small-scale hospitality projects. My expertise lies in remodels, new builds and furniture and styling projects. I like to think of myself as an analytical artist—I enjoy diving deep into human psychology and behavior, material research and discovering thoughtful, functional solutions for every space I design. At the heart of my philosophy is the belief that every home should be a true reflection of the people who live in it.

What sets my approach apart is my perspective on exclusivity. I take on a limited number of projects at a time, allowing me to dedicate my full attention and care to each client. Patience and intention are key elements of my design process, and providing a highly personalized experience is something I value deeply.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have to say, I absolutely love the people, culture, the diversity—and of course, the beautiful weather! What truly stands out to me is how inclusive and welcoming the people of Los Angeles are. This city is a melting pot of stories, backgrounds, and cultures, and it’s inspiring to see how we all come together to share our experiences and values.

As for what I’m not so fond of? Well, like most residents of LA—I’d have to say the traffic!
