Today we’d like to introduce you to Misaki Matsuda Lagos
Hi Misaki, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Eight years ago, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life—I moved to Los Angeles from Japan, alone with my son (he was 5 years old at the time) as a single mother, eager to start a new chapter in my life. With my background in digital marketing and branding, I helped businesses grow while also pursuing my passion to provide for my son and build our life here in Los Angeles. One day, while working with a real estate client, I became fascinated with the industry. This sparked my journey into real estate.
Business is all about creativity and ideas—acknowledging your strengths and what you can offer to others. Most importantly, it’s about finding what you truly love and are passionate about in your work. I am grateful to have found my way to build a business, and this is part of my life story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since I moved to the US from Japan as an adult, the language barrier wasn’t the only struggle I faced. I also had to adjust to an entirely different culture. Even small things, like jokes that worked in Japan, just didn’t land here. For the first couple of years, I often felt lonely and isolated, and I was frustrated that I couldn’t perform the way I used to back in my home country.
On top of that, since English wasn’t my first language, I realized I had to work twice as hard as the locals. But I always kept a positive mindset—if I worked harder, I’d make it. Behind every milestone, there were countless hours of effort and hard work that no one saw.
We’ve been impressed with Real Estate Agent, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Besides being a licensed realtor, I also help international investors expand their businesses overseas. I’m very resourceful when it comes to immigration visa processes or business operations for startups. With an international mindset, empathy, and the ability to speak both English and Japanese, I can bridge gaps that others can’t. And let’s not forget my marketing background!
What sets me apart is that when you hire me as a real estate agent, you also get my expertise in branding and marketing. I love helping buyers achieve their goals, but I especially enjoy working with sellers—because that’s where I get to showcase what I can really bring to the table
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Very simple— I love the sunny weather and the overall atmosphere. LA feels like ‘every weekend is a vacation,’ especially in the summer. It’s that California dream, and I’m grateful to live it.
As for what I like least, well, LA is one of the most expensive cities to live in, and it can be tough. Sometimes, I feel like I could do more, like eating out or shopping, if I were in Japan. But honestly, those challenges are what keep me motivated and ambitious—something I never really felt back in Japan.
