Today we’d like to introduce you to Majiye Uchibeke.
Majiye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a filmmaker, streaming strategist, and fashion entrepreneur originally from Nigeria but based in Los Angeles. I’ve spent over a decade building a multidisciplinary career that blends award-winning filmmaking, platform innovation, and global storytelling. While earning my MFA in Film & TV Production from USC School of Cinematic Arts, I directed ‘I Am More Dangerous Dead’, which won the DGA Student Award for Best Documentary, nominated by BAFTA and screened in over 100 international festivals across five continents.
I’ve curated and programmed content for major OTT platforms including Pluto TV, where my channels reach over 7.1 million users monthly and drive more than 70 million viewing hours. I’ve programmed and helped launch FAST networks like Black Movies+, Free Movies+.
In fashion, I founded TAILORED (www.tlrdofficial.com), a custom clothing brand that uses technology to deliver sustainable, made-to-order garments while funding school uniforms for children in underserved communities. My work across all these areas is unified by a belief in socially conscious creativity, using storytelling, design, and media to empower underrepresented voices and create tangible global impact.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not entirely, like most creative and entrepreneurial journeys, the road has had its challenges. Building a career across multiple industries meant constantly learning, adapting, and taking risks in unfamiliar spaces. Whether it was launching new ventures without traditional backing, navigating the complexities of streaming technology, or creating films that speak to underrepresented communities, I’ve had to be resourceful and persistent. But each challenge sharpened my vision and expanded my capabilities. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been meaningful, and deeply rewarding.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
TAILORED (www.tlrdofficial.com) is a mission-driven movement blending custom clothing with bold social impact. What sets us apart is our “one-for-two” model: for every piece sold, we donate two school uniforms to children in underserved communities in Africa.
Our collections are designed with sustainability in mind, using ethically sourced materials and partnering with skilled tailors in Nigeria and the U.S. to ensure both quality and economic empowerment. At the core, TLRD stands at the intersection of fashion and social enterprise, addressing fashion waste, fit inequity, and educational access in one innovative system.
We’re proud to be building a brand that not only looks good but does good, offering style with purpose and making it easier for people to wear their values.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Los Angeles is its incredible creative energy, it’s a city that draws dreamers and doers from all over the world. There’s constant inspiration in the diversity of people, cultures, and industries here, especially in film, fashion, and tech. The access to resources, collaborators, and opportunities is unmatched, and the city’s openness to new ideas makes it a perfect place to build something original.
What I like least is the stark inequality that exists side-by-side with so much abundance. The housing crisis and economic disparity are hard to ignore, especially when you see how many creatives struggle to stay afloat despite contributing so much to the city’s culture. There’s a need for more equity and support for emerging voices trying to break through.
