Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Maree
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in fashion in 2009 in Bondi Beach, Australia. After completing my graphic design degree, I faced challenges securing a position in the industry. This blessing in disguise led me to launch my own brand, Lisa Maree, focusing initially on crochet swimwear. 
My designs quickly gained recognition, leading to showcases at Mercedes-Benz Sydney Fashion Week and Miami Swim Fashion Week. These opportunities opened doors to international platforms, and my collections were soon featured on renowned retailers like Net-A-Porter, Revolve, Shopbop, Urban Outfitters, and Free People. 
Over time, I expanded my brand beyond crochet pieces to include resort wear and ready-to-wear collections. In 2010, I launched an e-commerce fashion store, which further amplified my brand’s reach with pieces being worn by celebrities such Jennifer Lopez on the cover of US Weekly, Amy Adams in Oscar winning movie American Hustle, Rihanna and many more!
Over the years I’ve moved around the world, relocating to Los Angeles in 2012 and opening my showroom downtown which became my base of operations, moving to Istanbul, Turkey a few years laters to open an office and manufacturing base there. Then in 2018, I made the decision to relocate permanently to Laguna Beach, California, where I opened our first retail boutique. This move allowed me to connect with a new audience and continue growing my brand in a vibrant community. 
Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to creating unique, high-quality designs that resonate with women seeking both style and substance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest struggle was at the very beginning!
At the time I had just finished my graphic design degree at university and could not get a job, no matter what I did. I even tried volunteering for free but no one wanted to spend the time training a newbie. So I found a government-funded small business course, a mini Shark Tank scenario, and applied for it. The kicker was that if you presented your business plan to the panel of three judges and they thought your business could be successful, they would grant you $10,000. That was the start of Lisa Maree!
I’ve always been a problem solver and a bit of a Pitbull. Give me a problem and I’ll strategise a successful way to overcome it with grit and determination.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely. The COVID-19 crisis was a pivotal moment for Lisa Maree. Before the pandemic, our business primarily operated on a wholesale model, supplying retailers around the world. However, as the global retail landscape shifted and stores faced closures, we recognized the need to adapt quickly.
During this time, we pivoted from a basically wholesale-only model to a direct-to-consumer approach, leveraging online advertising and digital marketing to reach our customers directly. This shift not only allowed us to continue thriving during uncertain times but also opened up new opportunities for growth that we hadn’t fully explored before.
What we learned was the power of agility and the importance of staying connected with our audience. By focusing on e-commerce and social media engagement, we were able to build a stronger brand presence, understand our customers on a deeper level, and tailor our offerings to their needs. The experience reinforced the idea that challenges often bring unexpected opportunities, and by embracing change, businesses can emerge stronger than ever.
In the end, what could have been a period of immense difficulty actually became a turning point for Lisa Maree—helping us scale, connect, and redefine our brand for the future.
