Hi Lawrence, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a young immigrant, I moved to LA from Taiwan at age of 15. Year. 1999. Growing up as a car lover. My first job was help my family car import export business. In 2012, I saw a massive logistical gap. I recognized a “bridge” was needed between the booming American supply and the insatiable Chinese demand.
You secured your dealer license and leveraged your overseas network to become a key player in the export market.
The Obstacle: The Trade War
This is the “Conflict” of your story. When the US-China trade war hit, my primary business model was essentially legislated out of profitability.

I shifted from selling cars across an ocean to renting them to people right in front of you and locating the rare special cars to car collectors.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For my import export business
High tariffs and political friction made the export business unsustainable.

Car rental business :
Many car rental companies offer very cheap rates because they don’t have rental licenses or rental insurance.

Turo : online car rental app. Turo is the world’s largest peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace, often described as the “Airbnb for cars,” Instead of competing with turo. I do use use this platform to rent some of the special cars I have.

Adaptability: The fact that you survived a trade war that sank many other businesses.
Connection: Transitioning from “faceless” overseas deals to seeing the immediate satisfaction of a local rental customer.

Dislike:
Unpredictable Policy: How a single political decision can disrupt years of hard work.
Depreciation: Watching a high-value asset lose value while sitting on a lot (a common stressor in the car world!).
