Community Highlights: Meet Jessica Krewson of DESIGNKREW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Krewson.

Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been building marketing funnels since before Instagram existed. (Yes, I’m counting the years. No, I won’t be saying the number out loud.)

It started at a local magazine. I was working there when I watched social media and online business take off, and I could see there was a place for my skills in that new world. So I jumped ship. I left my job with zero clients, zero money, and zero full-scope view of what I was going to do. I just took a chance, and that first yes to myself turned into designKREW™.

Today, designKREW is a done-for-you marketing and brand strategy agency in Los Angeles. We build brands, conversion funnels, email marketing systems, lead magnets, and social media content for service-based founders. Over the past 15+ years, I’ve worked with more than 200 founders, and the women I love working with most are established, high-performing female founders who sell high-ticket services. These are coaches, consultants, financial advisors, and experts who are already excellent at what they do and ready for their marketing to match the caliber of their work.

Somewhere along the way, I noticed a pattern I couldn’t ignore. Almost every client these women had came from a referral, a podcast interview, or a conversation they personally had. Their marketing existed, but it wasn’t really doing anything. They had half-built funnels on three different platforms, an email list they meant to nurture, and a handful of offers with no clear path into any of them.

They didn’t need a pep talk, because they already had the work ethic. What they needed was someone to build the system so their expertise could keep selling when they weren’t in the room. When that system is in place, the results add up fast. One webinar funnel we built produced $100K in sales from a list of fewer than 800 people. I like to say I’m the gasoline, not the ignition. My clients bring the momentum, and we build what turns it into ideal paying clients.

After years of helping high-ticket female founders, I noticed something else. So much of the online marketing world runs on bro marketing tactics like pressure, hype, and fake urgency, and they never felt right for the women I work with. I believe there’s a way to do this from a feminine perspective, and I love building it that way. Energy counts for more than we give it credit for. The energy behind your brand, your message, and every email you send is something your ideal client can feel, and it shapes whether she trusts you enough to buy.

Our clients’ numbers back that up. A tax resolution firm booked 12 calls in 30 days on $15 a day in ad spend, and another client made $23K without spending a dollar on ads.

I’m launching The Funnel Flood Gates, a monthly live training where I teach founders the six places their funnel needs to open up so ideal clients can flow through: the build, the message, the visibility, the flow, the nurture, and the sale.

So if you’re a service-based founder with high-ticket offers and you want a brand and conversion funnels that do some of the selling for you? That’s our jam, baby!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even a little bit. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart.

The early years were a crash course in figuring it out as I went. I said yes to almost everything, learned every platform and tool I could get my hands on, and built the plane while flying it. That season taught me a lot, but it also taught me that saying yes to everything is a fast way to burn out.

The hardest moment came when I lost a big client that made up about 50% of our revenue. They decided to bring their marketing team in-house, and just like that, half of our income was gone. It was a really challenging time, and it shook my confidence. It also made me realize something a little embarrassing: the funnel builder didn’t have her own strategic funnel in place. Whoops!

On one hand, I was scrambling because I knew I needed to bring more ideal clients into my own pipeline, fast. On the other hand, I was living exactly what so many of my clients face when they lose a big client or want to expand. They’re incredible at what they do, but they don’t have a system in place to attract ideal clients without leaning on referrals or their current client roster. That experience changed how I build for my clients, because now I know exactly how it feels from the inside.

Another big lesson has been learning to trust the slower seasons and build what I need to build to take my business to its next level of capacity. In this industry, it’s easy to believe that if you’re not constantly posting, launching, and hustling, you’re falling behind. I’ve had to learn that a quiet month isn’t a failure. It’s often where the next level of growth is taking shape.

Innovation is essential to the health and longevity of a business.

I’ve also had to learn how to protect my creative energy while staying visible. I’ve had to find a rhythm that works for me, which looks like batching content when my energy is high and building systems that keep things moving when I’m heads-down serving clients. (Yes, I take my own medicine.)

And as designKREW has grown, so has the dynamics of leading a team. Growing without losing the fun, playful dynamic that makes this work feel good has taken real intention. Our core values of a positive YES mentality, fun and playfulness, a growth mindset, and a commitment to excellence and beauty came directly out of figuring that out.

What I’ve learned through all of this is that clarity comes from taking aligned action. I didn’t have it all figured out when I jumped ship from the magazine, and I still don’t 15 years later. What I do know to be true is that if you keep moving forward, the tide will rise again, things will become clear, and you’ll know what to do. We do it messy, we do it scared, and we do it whether we feel like it or not.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DESIGNKREW?
designKREW™ is a boutique done-for-you marketing and funnel strategy agency based in Los Angeles. We build brands, conversion funnels, email marketing systems, lead magnets, social media content, and ads for established, high-performing female founders who sell high-ticket services. Our clients are coaches, consultants, financial advisors, and service-based experts who are already excellent at what they do and want their marketing to finally keep pace with their work.

What we’re known for is building the full system, not just a piece of it. A lot of founders come to us with a website from one designer, emails from a freelancer, social content from a VA, and a funnel someone started and never finished. Nothing is talking to each other. We bring it all together under one strategy, so someone can discover you, trust you, and book a call with you without you personally walking them through every step.

What sets us apart comes down to four things.

First, we do strategy and execution. Plenty of people will tell you what to do. We actually build it, from the backend tech and lead magnet to the landing page, email nurture sequence, and social content, and then we hand it over working.

Second, we market from a feminine perspective. You won’t find pressure tactics, fake countdown timers, or hype here. We believe the energy behind your brand matters, and that your ideal client can feel the difference between being sold to and being understood.

Third, we know this from the inside. We’ve built our own internal funnels for designKREW, and we’ve built countless more for founders across many different industries. That gives us a real understanding of what a business needs to expand and grow, and of the growth marketing it takes to become less dependent on referrals and build a steady flow of ideal clients.

Fourth, we’re an AI-forward agency. We’re constantly developing new ways to use AI to create efficiencies, both inside designKREW and for our clients, so funnels get built faster, campaigns launch sooner, and nothing sits half-finished. AI speeds things up, and human strategy, taste, and judgment steer it. AI is a powerful tool, but it can’t replace knowing your ideal client, your voice, and the energy behind your brand.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the results our clients get without needing huge audiences or big ad budgets: $100K in sales from a single webinar, 12 booked calls in 30 days on $15 a day in ad spend, and $23K in sales with no ad spend at all. I’m just as proud of how we get there. Our core values are a positive YES mentality, fun and playfulness, a growth mindset, and a commitment to excellence and beauty, and our clients feel those in every interaction. Serious results don’t require serious energy.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’d definitely call myself a risk-taker, though I’ve learned the difference between a reckless risk and an aligned one. Honestly, I think entrepreneurship is synonymous with risk.

I’ve taken many risks in many different ways. I’ve invested in masterminds and programs that helped me catapult my business to the next level by putting me in rooms with leaders who were several steps ahead of me. Those were big financial investments, and they felt risky every single time. I’ve onboarded new team members before I was sure I was ready to take them on. I’ve launched programs, and I started a podcast. Each one stretched me.

A lot of those decisions didn’t make sense on paper. But I tend to see patterns in where business is headed, and I’ve learned that if I waited until I felt safe, I’d still be waiting 15 years later. I’m glad I don’t wait. I trust the nudges.

The way I think about risk now is that not taking one is also a risk. It just doesn’t feel like one because it’s quieter. Staying where it’s comfortable, holding onto the offer that used to work, or waiting until everything is perfect before you launch all come with a cost. You just pay it slowly, in missed timing and momentum.

I’m an instinct-driven decision-maker, and I’d rather launch, learn, and refine in real time than spend months planning something in a vacuum. Some of my best ideas have come from putting something out there before it felt “ready” and letting real people show me what to tweak. Progress beats perfection every single time.

To me risk-taking works best with a foundation underneath it. Today, I take even bigger swings because I build systems that support risk-taking. That’s exactly what I want for my clients too. When your funnel is consistently bringing in ideal clients, you can take bold risks like raising your prices, launching a new offer, or saying no to the wrong client, because you’re not making those decisions from a place of fear.

So my perspective is this: trust your instincts, take the leap, and build the net while you’re at it. And if your gut is telling you it’s time, it probably is.
