Community Highlights: Meet Jessica Fox of Jessica Fox, LMFT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fox.

Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I knew as early as senior year of high school that I wanted to be a psychotherapist (call it a calling, I guess!) but took a nonlinear path to arrive here. I took time in my twenties to travel and explore other career paths, so when I finally committed to being a therapist, it was with a great deal of knowing and confidence. I had always known that what I would do for my work would need to be relational, non-competitive, and meaningful. Being a therapist is an ideal role for me. I get to meet a person in a hard season of their life and help them find ways for it to feel less hard.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In many ways, the road to becoming a therapist has been one of the smoothest parts of my life, and I think that is because doubt was not part of the equation. Though it was a hustle to complete the hours to get licensed while working a side job, the hard work felt worthwhile because I knew what I was heading towards and what I was building. The bumpy parts for me have been more around what life throws at you while you are making your plans. I am a therapist but I am also a person who is having the full range of human experiences, just like my clients. My lived experiences color my work in the room without ever needing to share what they are. The more I experience, the more I learn how healing happens.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I work in private practice out of my office in Westwood and see clients virtually and in person. I work with individuals and couples, and treat the usual suspects of anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, dissatisfaction in life, feeling stuck, unheard, or unfulfilled. I have a particular passion for working with women in their late teens through 30s to make sense of their inner experiences and make choices that lead to more peace and empowerment in their day-to-day life. People’s issues are not one size fits all, so my approach is not one size fits all. I instinctively pull from different psychology theories depending on what is showing up in the room. For trauma work, I utilize EMDR.

My style is active, engaged, invested, collaborative. I will share my observations, ask many questions, and redirect and challenge you. Though I do not take a neutral stance, I hold a baseline of respect for every client that they ultimately know what is best for them. I want my clients to leave session with new thoughts percolating and a sense of hope that things can change.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am currently accepting new clients and be contacted via my PsychologyToday.com page.

An unrealized goal of mine is to lead a weekly women’s support group on the westside of LA. This will materialize at the right time, but perhaps there is a co-facilitator out there with the same idea, and we could find each other and connect on this!
