Community Highlights: Meet Jen Seko of New Win Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Seko.

Jen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story definitely hasn’t been a straight line…. so I am very honored to be asked to share it!

I started struggling with drugs at a very young age (12 yo), and for years I carried around a lot of pain, poor choices, and beliefs about myself that I didn’t really know how to deal with. Eventually, that lifestyle caught up with me, and I spent five years in federal prison. And this was after building a family, a business, a home, and staying clean for 10 years. I relapsed after my divorce and my life spiraled out of control. At the time, it felt like my life had completely fallen apart when I got went to prison. Looking back now, it became one of the biggest turning points of my life.

When I came home, I knew I didn’t want to go back to being the person I had been. I started rebuilding myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Fitness became a huge part of that process. What started as working on my own health eventually became something much bigger. I became a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, and life coach, and I realized that so many of the lessons I had learned through rebuilding my own life could help other people rebuild theirs too.

That became the foundation for New Win Fitness. My coaching is about much more than losing weight or following a workout plan. I work with people who are trying to become stronger, regain confidence, rebuild after difficult seasons, and stop letting one bad day turn into giving up on themselves completely. I’m especially passionate about helping people who feel like they’re starting over, because I know firsthand what that feels like.

My own journey also included getting sober from alcohol. I made that decision on January 1, 2025, and sobriety has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. It has made me more intentional about the kind of woman, mother, coach, partner, and leader I want to be.

Today, I coach clients, teach group fitness, continue building New Win Fitness and the Comeback Method, and co-host the Lock In To Win podcast, where we have honest conversations about recovery, transformation, accountability, relationships, faith, and what it really takes to change your life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Aside from my childhood trauma, my early addiction, divorce, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and prison time….

One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to rebuild a life while also rebuilding myself. Coming home after five years in federal prison meant starting over in ways that most people don’t always see. There were practical challenges, but there were also internal ones — shame, fear, self-doubt, learning how to trust myself again, and figuring out who I was outside of the choices I had made in the past.

I also learned that changing your environment doesn’t automatically change your patterns. I had years where I was doing better on the outside but still carrying a lot of unresolved pain underneath it. Eventually, alcohol became another way of coping, and getting sober forced me to be much more honest with myself. I could no longer numb out, avoid things, or blame circumstances. I had to actually deal with what was there.

There were also plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was qualified to help other people while I was still growing myself. Building a business, becoming a coach, putting myself online, and sharing parts of my story publicly brought up a lot of fear around judgment. I had to learn that I didn’t need to have a perfect past or a perfect life to have something valuable to offer. I just needed to be honest, responsible, and willing to keep doing the work.

Another challenge has been learning patience. I am someone who likes to move fast, build, create, and keep going, but real change doesn’t always happen on our timeline. Whether it was sobriety, fitness, business, relationships, or confidence, I had to learn that consistency matters more than intensity.

The road has been full of setbacks, uncomfortable lessons, and seasons where I felt like I was starting over again. But I’ve come to see that starting over is not failure. Sometimes it is exactly how you build something stronger the second time around.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about New Win Fitness?
New Win Fitness is a coaching and wellness brand built around the idea that transformation is about much more than losing weight.

I help people rebuild confidence, strength, structure, and trust in themselves through fitness, nutrition, habit change, and personal development. A lot of the people I work with are in some kind of transition — starting over after a difficult season, getting sober, rebuilding after divorce, trying to get healthy after years of putting themselves last, or simply feeling disconnected from who they used to be.

My approach is very focused on helping people stop the all-or-nothing cycle. Instead of chasing perfection, I teach people how to notice when they are slipping, remove the shame and drama around it, return to their minimum habits, and rebuild from there. I want people to understand that one bad day, one missed workout, or one difficult week does not mean they have failed.

I also specialize in working with beginners and people who may feel intimidated by fitness. I want health and fitness to feel practical, realistic, and sustainable. My coaching combines strength training, nutrition education, accountability, mindset work, and behavior change in a way that fits real life.

New Win Fitness includes one-on-one coaching, fitness and nutrition guidance, group training, educational workshops, community support, and a fitness app where members can access workouts, programs, habit tracking, nutrition tools, recipes, and resources designed to help them stay consistent.

What sets my brand apart is that I am not coaching from a place of perfection. I am coaching from lived experience. I understand what it is like to rebuild your life, your confidence, and your identity from the ground up. Because of that, my approach is very honest. I am not interested in selling quick fixes or unrealistic transformations. I want people to build something they can actually maintain, not to stop and restart.

One of the things I am most proud of is the community that has grown around the brand. I call them the New Win Ninjas, and the idea behind that is simple: we celebrate the small wins. Sometimes the win is losing weight or getting stronger. Sometimes the win is showing up when you really didn’t feel like it, choosing not to quit, asking for help, or getting back on track after a difficult week.

Ultimately, New Win Fitness is for people who are ready to become stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. My message has always been: be you, only better. You don’t have to become somebody else to change your life. You just have to keep building a stronger version of yourself. That’s really all there is to it!

How do you think about luck?
I have a complicated relationship with the word “luck.”

There have definitely been moments in my life that I could label bad luck but looking back, some of the things I once considered the worst things that could happen to me ended up redirecting my entire life. I call them blessings in disguise.

Going to prison didn’t feel lucky. Neither did struggling with addiction, starting over, or having to rebuild my life from the ground up. But those experiences forced me to slow down, take a hard look at myself, and eventually discover a purpose I probably would not have found otherwise.

On the other side, I’ve also had incredible people, opportunities, and connections come into my life at exactly the right time. I consider that a form of good luck, in a sense, but I’ve learned that an opportunity only matters if you’re willing to do something with it.

That has been true in business too. Some of my best opportunities have come from conversations I didn’t expect, people seeing something in me, saying yes before I felt completely ready, or simply being in the right place at the right time. But behind those moments are years of showing up, learning, getting certified, creating content, coaching people, making mistakes, changing direction, and continuing even when things weren’t moving as quickly as I wanted.

So I don’t know if I believe success is about being lucky as much as being prepared when the opportunity appears.

I also believe you can take something that initially feels like bad luck and decide what it’s going to mean in your life. I can’t change the things that happened to me, and I can’t change every decision I made, but I can choose what I build from those decisions.

In a strange way, some of the hardest chapters of my life gave me the exact experiences I now use to help other people. I wouldn’t wish every part of my journey on anyone, but I also wouldn’t erase it, because it helped create the work I’m doing today.
