Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Kahn
Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been an entrepreneur. When I was a kid I created many different business ventures from selling homemade air fresheners to lemonade stands to handmade stationary and cards. My passion and natural, entrepreneurial spirit followed me into adulthood.
After I achieved my Bachelor of Arts and two Masters Degrees, I began my career path. However, it was not as linear as expected. I started doing contract and consulting work for various businesses and non-profit organizations. I realized I liked the dynamic nature of working on a variety of projects with different organizations. I also realized that I have a mind that would be more conducive to innovation and creation with my unorthodox approaches and thought processes. That is when I decided to lean into my natural, entrepreneurial spirit and develop my own business.
That is what led me to create Elizabeth Kahn Consulting LLC in 2020. My consulting business has gone through many phases since inception. From grant writing to marketing strategy, I tried it all. After four years of providing an array of services, I finally found the direction I am taking my business.
My consulting business specializes in Sustainability and ESG (Environmental Social Governance) consulting. This is a focus area that I have a strong background and passion in. I provide Sustainability Consulting Strategy that focuses on strategizing, planning, and implementing sustainability goals within a business or organization. My goal is to help businesses and organizations become more ecologically-conscious and sustainability-focused to save money and the Earth. I have recently pivoted from Marketing Strategy, which I still provide and I plan to continue to incorporate into my consulting services. I provide an unconventional approach on how to navigate marketing. I provide realistic, affordable, and effective tactics to grow my clients brand within their given community.
I love being an entrepreneur as I love to innovate, create, and to make the world a better place.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My experience has been and continues to be quite the self-motivated adventure. As the founder and key consultant, it has taken me years to finally be able to hone into the right direction of my consulting business. I truly believe that I needed to try everything out to get to where I am today. That is why I have no regrets with my approach and roundabout ways to creating and developing my business over the years. I truly believe that life is a journey and my career path is no different. I am proud of my tenacity, perseverance, motivation, and determined work I have put into developing my business. It feels amazing to look at all of my skills and to see that I am putting them all to work in an effective and meaningful manner. I truly believe that the only time that someone fails, is when they give up. I will never give up and I will continue to refine my practice over the years – as changing, shaping, and creating a better world is incredibly important to me. That is what my purpose in this world is.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My consulting business focuses on Sustainability and ESG (Environmental Social Governance). My main goal is to help my clients achieve their organizational sustainability goals through analysis/benchmarking, planning, and implementation. I also provide guidance in Sustainability Certifications, ESG Reporting, and Sustainable Marketing Strategies. Some areas of focus include, but are not limited to: greenhouse gas and climate strategy, zero waste strategy, green building strategy, sustainability of water, land conversation and restoration, and sustainable technologies strategies. I am excited to work with businesses and organizations to expand and plan their sustainability goals through their managerial and operational practices.
I also integrate accountability and wellness coaching into my practice. I am a proud proponent to a work-life balance lifestyle. I also love to incorporate wellness into my own personal lifestyle and routines. After years of market research, I am writing a motivational book series. The series will focus on helping individuals find their passion through their career path and how to create a work-life balance into their lives. I am also creating a customized goal planner. I am currently selling motivational notebooks and I will be selling the goal planner on Amazon.
It has taken me quite some time to get here, but I suppose that is what makes it a career PATH and a journey.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best way to find a mentor and to build-up your network is by creating meaningful relationships over the years. I have noticed that the most genuine and effective mentors and networks that I have are built through years of cultivating and growing – I think of it like a metaphorical plant seedling. It starts out small and nothing. But over the years with a lot of time, effort, and love, it grows into something useful and significant. That is why creating a personal bond and professional relationship with someone needs to be natural and not forced. It is important to note that people can detect superficial and ulterior motives, that is why it is best to go in with the best intentions – so find someone that you truly believe in and want to grow and to learn from.
As I always say, everything good in this world takes time and effort.
