Community Highlights: Meet Ed Hochman of Hawk Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Hochman.

Hi Ed, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in property management for over 20 years, starting my career in 2003 with AIMCO at a 1,279-unit property in Woodland Hills, CA. Early on, I focused on supervising maintenance teams, leasing apartments, and implementing a preventative maintenance program. I was proud to earn top rankings in customer satisfaction, even receiving a perfect score in a blinded survey.

In 2004, I was promoted to Assistant Manager at a 279-unit, Class “A” mixed-use property in Los Angeles, where I managed leasing, resident relations, and accounts receivable/payable.

In 2005, I joined Advanced Management as a Property Manager for a 206-unit property in Lakewood, CA. During my time there, I led a major property rehabilitation and was honored to be named “Manager of the Year” in both 2006 and 2009. I consistently maintained high occupancy levels, increased revenue, and launched a profitable recycling program that was eventually adopted company-wide. Thanks to this success, I was given the opportunity to manage additional properties for the ownership group.

After earning my MBA in 2010, I took on the role of Regional Manager at Norman Jacobson Property Management, where I oversaw 17 properties across Southern California. In 2013, after earning my broker’s license in 2012, I founded Hawk Management.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC Irvine with a BA in Political Science and later earned my MBA from Loyola Marymount University. I also had the privilege of serving as Vice President and then President of the Los Angeles chapter of NARPM (National Association of Residential Property Managers) in 2020 and 2021.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely had its share of ups and downs. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges—from navigating market shifts to building the right team and refining our services. It has taken a great deal of hard work, persistence, and adaptability to get where we are today. Growth hasn’t happened overnight, and we’re still working every day to improve, expand, and better serve our clients. Every hurdle has been a learning experience, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come—and excited for what’s ahead.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
