Juanita’s House Cleaning is a family business that began with my mother, Juanita Hernandez, who started cleaning homes in 1979. Through years of hands-on work, learning in every home she cleaned, and building trust with her clients, she eventually decided to venture out on her own. What began as a way to support her family through honest work gradually grew through word of mouth and long-term relationships.
I grew up around the business and was exposed to it at a very young age. In 2001, while preparing to leave for college in Irvine, California—about 70 miles away—I wanted to continue helping my mother with what was still an informal business. Being physically distant pushed me to think creatively, which led me to build a simple website, place ads online, and focus heavily on customer communication and service. That period marked a turning point for both the business and my role in it..
Juanita’s House Cleaning officially took shape around 2002, when the website launched and the business became more structured. Over time, I became more involved, helping modernize operations while staying true to the values my mother built the business on—hard work, consistency, and treating people with respect.
As the business grew, so did the challenges. We navigated economic downturns, changing customer expectations, and the growing pains that come with scaling a family-run operation. Our focus has always remained the same: improving the quality of our cleaning services and the experience our clients receive. By creating clear processes and systems, we’ve worked to ensure consistency and reliability while maintaining a personal, relationship-driven approach.
Today, Juanita’s House Cleaning serves residential and commercial clients throughout Los Angeles County, with plans to continue expanding across Southern California. At its core, the business remains family-owned and rooted in pride for honest work. I see my role as carrying forward my mother’s legacy while building something sustainable and meaningful for the next generation.

It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small, family-run businesses, our journey has been shaped by trial and error, persistence, and a lot of learning along the way.
In the early years, one of the biggest challenges was simply stability. Cleaning is physically demanding work, and when you’re self-employed, there’s no safety net—if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. My mother carried that weight for many years while still prioritizing quality and reliability for her clients.
As the business began to grow, new challenges emerged. Transitioning from a one-person operation into a more structured company required learning how to create systems, manage schedules, handle customer expectations, and work with others while maintaining consistent quality. Not every hire or partnership worked out, and there were moments where mistakes became expensive lessons.
We also navigated broader challenges beyond our control, including economic downturns and shifts in how customers evaluate and value services. Each period required us to adapt—sometimes by raising standards, sometimes by refining our processes, and often by having difficult but necessary conversations.
Perhaps the most ongoing challenge has been balancing growth with the personal, family-oriented approach that built the business in the first place. Scaling without losing trust, relationships, and accountability is something we continue to be mindful of.
