Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Lamin Sillah.
Hi Prince Lamin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Prince aka Village Boy Prince. I’m from a Town/Village Call ‘Kemema’ located in the Eastern Region of Sierra Leone, West Africa. I was in middle school when I started singing and rapping in front of my class. I soon became popular around town for my musical talent. I performed at schools, concerts, talent shows, and events. Couple of years later, I was able to reunite with my mother who was residing in United States. She filled for a visa For me to move to America. 2009 I landed in Atlanta GA, met with my mother for the first time. It was truly an amazing moment. I finished up high school in Atlanta, then moved to Orlando, Florida to attend Full Sail University for Recording Arts.
I went to college for recording arts because I wanted to fulfill my goal I had as a kid to break through the American industry, put my country, Sierra Leone on the map. I graduated, then move to Los Angeles, CA to pursue my dream as an artist/producer/. 2018 I released my first Afrobeat/Afro Pop record which I produced myself. “I can’t wait another day”. Shortly after that, I released more singles, “World Cup” “Change My Life” “By My Side” during quarantine, over 100k streams. Huge buzz in Africa. Currently, I’m working on music videos for my singles, also getting ready to drop a new record. While I still help other artists with their projects. I know how to produce, engineer, and mix. I record myself mix and co-produce my own records. I’m working hard towards my goal everyday and I will keep going till I get to my destination.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. Language – when I first moved to Atlanta from Africa, it was kinda hard for me to communicate with others. Culture, trying to fix in an adapt to new environment. Style of music was different because of my background, not too many people understood what I was trying to do. My music was different. Also, not having no guidance in the industry or manager to help.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Artist/Singer specialize in Afro Beats/Dancehall/Afro Pop/Afro Reggae. I’m known for my love anthem and feel good records that put you in the vibe, make you want to dance. I’m most proud of my originality, culture, emotions I bring on my records. I don’t sound like no one out there. I’m self-sufficient, I can record, produce, mix my own songs
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
It was not normal. We migrated a lot due to the civil war that was on & off for a long period of time. Even with all that going on, I was a happy, charismatic, talented kid loved by everyone. Music was my passion and hobby.
