Check Out Zander Torres’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zander Torres.

Hi Zander, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story like many has been a very crazy ride. I remember being a kid and always being drawn to film. I still remember one Halloween sneaking into my room to watch John Carpenter’s cult classic “Halloween” wow seeing that at a young age was wild. This was amongst many other films I was exposed to as a kid. I have my mom to thank for that. Flash forward many years later, being in high school making short films and random little movies with my childhood friends. We were always trying to come up with some crazy ideas and bring it to life all captured on our phones. Goes to show you don’t need much to create, just have to do it. Long story short I got here today by just pure will to create and keep pushing forward. Acting for me is a very important thing. I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do What I do. “If you keep going you’ll get somewhere”. I don’t even think that’s an actual saying, but hey I like it, after all, it’s about the journey right?

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some days were hard, some were harder. I always believed if you put your faith in something, like really put your faith in it. You can do amazing things. I still remember that day laying in that barren slumped hospital bed, completely on the edge, I mean blood sugars through the freaking roof. Barely even able to keep my eyes open, just beaten. The doctor walks in and tells me I’ve been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Almost like he’s telling me the time. For a while I struggled with the victim mentality, then I made a change that alter my whole life. I took a good long look in the mirror and told myself I can do anything. I’m here for a reason. I had a purpose in my life, it was time to do something. Make some serious moves.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an actor, It is my job to bring the character to life. I give him breath, I give him a vessel to live. For me, it’s always been about “How can I best serve the story?” These little details that end up being huge in the long run of things. So far I’ve don’t a lot of very creative work, with some very amazing people. From shooting “Beautiful Sadness” with my good friend Kyle Oechslin. To shooting “ha ha” with Albert Acosta and Adrian Acosta. I’ve gotten to really put my “craft to the test and help bring these characters to life on screen”. I’m very proud of everything I’ve done, in the end whether I realized in the moment or not. Everything I’ve done has been at some point uncomfortable. As an actor that’s where you grow, when you push yourself and shine the light on through that darkness. I want to continue to do this throughout my whole life. Acting on camera or out in the world with whatever I’m doing. I aspire to be the best I can and bring those around up with me. Climb that mountain, but do it together.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Look In the mirror that’s who’s stopping you from achieving success. No one else take ownership and get after it.
