Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Hua.
Hi Tracy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was one of those kids that always had a camera in their hand – particularly to film (photography came way afterward). I played recreational and competitive basketball and would have my sister film my games for me. My teammates, who are still some of my closest friends, had no choice but to be my unpaid actresses and models for my idea of a music video. Creating videos was a priceless birthday gift for family and friends. Back then there wasn’t Youtube University to teach me how to edit, but somehow I managed to learn Adobe Premiere and Final Cut on my own from the basic editing to the complexities of green screen and keyframes. Never in my middle school and high school years did I think I would make videography a career or take film courses in college – even in college I didn’t even have that thought. It was either I had my eyes on another prize, or I was just that stubborn to take classes (haha)!
I now work as a videographer and photographer with over a decade of music industry experience. My love of visuals grew more from traveling with my partner, so I have a travel content creation background which led me to start my travel podcast four years ago (January 2020 – yes, a TRAVEL podcast in early 2020…) called Ticket 2 Anywhere Podcast. My co-host and I call it a ‘visual first podcast’ because what’s a travel podcast without showing the videos and photos of the places we’re talking about? In our third year, we appeared front page under the TRAVEL TALK category on Apple Podcast.
Through involvement in the travel community, I realized the need of representing your identity on the road. My wife was always hinting that we should start a travel YouTube channel – why not add that to my plate? And so I did. Maui and Trizzy is our channel’s name… we are two Asian Women married to each other and experiencing different cultures whether they agree with who we are or not. But the most important thing is that we know who are wherever we go.
All of the above goes under my brand, Trizzinc … I’ve had this tagged in my childhood videos. Now Trizzinc is being seen on a platform other than my uncle’s DVD player.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was unemployed for about 6 months after college. The job I was able to land was for a motorcycle windshield company and I was doing Marketing and managing their E-Commerce website (I didn’t have any experience in websites at the time). I spent a year in this toxic environment. I was unfulfilled because coming from Seattle, WA, my goal was to work in the music industry seeking talent (A&R).
After a year, a career-defining moment happened, and that was the start of my videography and photography work in the music industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
How I would rank myself now:
1. Content creator – mainly travel (Maui and Trizzy Youtube Channel) and fitness.
2. Podcaster & Podcast Producer – Ticket 2 Anywhere Podcast.
Videography & Photography – worked in the music industry but now looking to branch off to the travel industry, and the events world of endurance sports (marathons, spartan races, etc.), and business conferences.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
