Today we’d like to introduce you to Rini K.
Hi Rini, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started releasing music in 2020 after writing and producing my own songs since I was 11 years old. After releasing my debut album, I joined TikTok in 2021, and that’s when things really started to change for me. I began experiencing viral success, which helped me build my first core fan base, whom I now refer to as the “Riniacs.” From there, I started collaborating with co-writers and producers, which led to my current EP, “Not So Teenage Dream,” which I have been rolling out one song at a time.
In between releases, I also began acting and have been in several short films over the past year, many of which have received accolades at film festivals which we are all so incredibly grateful for! Additionally, I co-wrote songs on other notable projects, such as Haley Faye Rosenthal’s EP, “My Ghost.” This journey has brought me to where I am now, seeing success on platforms beyond TikTok, like YouTube, where my new song “Bored Little Kid” has been exponentially growing over the past few weeks. Truth be told, I am where I am because I consistently showed up for my fans with new music and content.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, haha! I have been very open both in my music and online about my struggles with physical and mental health. When I moved to Dallas in 2021, I developed a chronic illness that altered my life and made showing up day-to-day incredibly challenging. I also experienced debilitating anxiety from the amount of hate I was not used to handling at 16 after going viral multiple times on TikTok. Every day was a battle for around a year, yet it made me discover a resilience in myself that I had never realized before. While it was absolute hell, it sparked a newfound inner strength, allowing me to live my life now with much self-assurance and peace despite the chronic flare-ups and continued harassment that comes with being in the entertainment industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been writing songs since I was a little kid, and my sound and process have evolved significantly since then. My music is very lyrics-focused and introspective. I like to write about feelings that are almost impossible to put into words, like feeling so much that you’d rather feel nothing at all, or the experience of moving out of your childhood home. Over the years, I have learned that it’s okay to write about anything I am going through, regardless of whether anyone else would relate. Sometimes the more specific we write, the more people feel connected to the song. I saw that with my last song “Bored Little Kid” and was so touched by the public response.
I also recently started my journey in acting! I’ve been at it for about a year and have absolutely fallen in love with the craft and the business. There is something so special about storytelling in this medium and the feeling of being on set. I can’t wait for everyone to see some of the upcoming projects I have had the privilege to be a part of!
What matters most to you? Why?
My relationships. I’m fortunate to be attending college right now, which has allowed me to make friends my own age outside of my industry for the first time in years due to being homeschooled in high school. No matter what is going on in my life, I always strive to be a good friend and cherish these wonderful people. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that while I absolutely love the dopamine of success, it’s no better than the joy of a fun, casual night with family, blood related or not. Balancing my life is very difficult, but I will always find a way to prioritize my family and friends because without real-life experiences, I’m not living my truth.
