Today we’d like to introduce you to Rena Maeda.
Hi Rena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Japan, where my love for beauty began. My mother was a hairstylist, and she was the one who taught me what beauty truly means—not just how someone looks, but how they feel. After graduating from beauty college in Japan, I worked as a hair and makeup artist before moving to the United States.
Bridal beauty has always been my passion because I love being part of such an important and emotional moment in someone’s life. Seeing my clients feel confident and happy on their wedding day is what drives me. In 2012, I started Bright Crystal Wedding, and over the past decade, it has grown into a business that reflects my journey, my values, and my dedication to making every bride feel radiant and cared for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—and even today, it still isn’t always easy. When I first started, I had no clients and no connections, so I had to work very hard to build everything from scratch. There were many moments of uncertainty, but I stayed consistent, kept improving my skills, and focused on providing the best experience for every client. Each challenge taught me resilience and patience, and those struggles are what shaped me into the business owner I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a licensed cosmetologist specializing in bridal hair and makeup, and I am also a certified eyelash technician. I’m best known for creating soft, romantic, and timeless looks that enhance each client’s natural beauty rather than covering it. Many of my clients come to me because they want to look like the best version of themselves on their most important day.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me during such a meaningful moment in their lives. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of working with hundreds of brides, and seeing their confidence and happiness is the most rewarding part of my work.
What sets me apart is my Japanese background and attention to detail. I bring a calm, thoughtful approach to every appointment, combining high-quality Japanese products with personalized service. I don’t rush, I listen carefully, and I truly care about how my clients feel—not just how they look. That level of care is what makes my work special and keeps clients coming back and referring others.
Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to continue growing and expanding my business into more areas, including Orange County, Temecula, and San Diego. I want to bring my services to more brides while maintaining the quality and personal care that my brand is known for.
I’m also very excited to expand my educational side by launching both in-person and online workshops. These workshops will allow me to share my skills and experience with other artists and aspiring professionals, helping them grow their confidence and careers. Teaching and building community is a big part of my next chapter, and I’m really looking forward to it.
