Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Wong.
Hi Raquel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Raquel Wong. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona, and am the Director of Marketing for Skindinavia.
Fuelled by a passion for beauty that burned brightly, I pursued business marketing and communications studies, eager to unlock the secrets of sharing and promoting the products I adored. Graduating from college marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter that led me straight into the hallowed halls of Sephora Corporate, where I immersed myself in the world of cosmetics with unbridled enthusiasm.
But my journey didn’t end there. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and adventure, I ventured into biotechnology and aerospace, exploring new horizons and pushing the boundaries of what I thought possible. Yet, amidst the dizzying array of opportunities, my heart remained steadfastly devoted to the world of beauty.
It was with great excitement that I embraced my role as Director of Marketing for Skindinavia, I found my place in the vibrant tapestry of the beauty industry, where my passion and expertise could flourish.
Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering love for my craft, I found my home in the world of beauty – where every day brought new challenges and opportunities for growth. Looking back on my journey – from the streets of San Francisco to the desert plains of Arizona – I am filled with gratitude for the path that led me here and excitement for the adventures ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to where I stand today has been far from smooth sailing. I navigated through jobs that offered financial stability but left me feeling unfulfilled. Battling severe anxiety, I found myself grappling with roles that failed to ignite my passion, forcing me to confront challenges I never imagined I’d face. It wasn’t until I reached the age of 27 that I finally stumbled upon the perfect fit for me.
In retrospect, I’ve embraced the cliché that everything happens for a reason. Each seemingly misguided step along my journey was a vital lesson, shaping me into the person I am today. I’ve learned to appreciate the contrast between the unsatisfying roles of my past and the fulfilling position I now inhabit.
Throughout my ventures outside the realm of beauty, I consistently felt like a square peg in a round hole. Colleagues often teased me, suggesting that my true calling lay within the beauty industry. While their words held truth, they also unintentionally perpetuated a sense of inadequacy, making me believe that I wasn’t worthy of anything beyond the confines of beauty.
However, despite my doubts and insecurities, their nudges towards my passion weren’t misguided. In hindsight, I realize that their encouragement stemmed from a genuine recognition of where my talents truly lie. It took time, but I’ve come to understand that my place is within the beauty space, and I can thrive there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the Director of Marketing for Skindinavia, I specialize in diverse areas crucial to our company’s success. These include developing comprehensive marketing strategies, meticulously managing our brand image, orchestrating impactful product launches and campaigns, navigating the ever-evolving digital and traditional marketing landscape, fostering fruitful relationships through public relations efforts, and meticulously tracking performance metrics while expertly managing budgets.
In my role, I’m entrusted with the pivotal task of propelling Skindinavia forward, driving growth, and amplifying brand recognition. By crafting and executing strategic marketing initiatives across multiple channels, I aim to captivate our audience and cultivate enduring connections with consumers.
Renowned for my versatility and adaptability, I am often hailed as a ‘jack of all trades’ in marketing. I take pride in staying abreast of the latest industry trends, constantly enriching my knowledge through ongoing education and professional development. A hallmark of my dedication is my unwavering commitment to always being present and available. Whether seizing last-minute opportunities or jetting off for impromptu meetings, I relish engaging with individuals face-to-face.
What truly sets me apart is my insatiable thirst for knowledge. Far from resting on my laurels, I humbly acknowledge that there’s always more to learn, more insights to glean, and more perspectives to consider. Each day, I prioritize expanding my horizons, eagerly embracing new challenges, and endeavoring to glean fresh insights to enrich my personal and professional growth.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My foremost counsel for those embarking on their journey is this: never allow pride to obstruct the path to seeking guidance. Embrace humility and don’t hesitate to pose numerous questions, remaining receptive to absorbing fresh knowledge at every turn. Cultivating a tolerance for discomfort is imperative, as growth often emerges from stepping beyond one’s comfort zone.
While forging connections is vital, authenticity must remain paramount. Network fervently, yet ensure your interactions are genuine and sincere. A lesson I’ve gleaned from my experience is that not everyone operates with your best interests at heart. Vigilance is essential – remain steadfast and vigilant, safeguarding your interests without succumbing to naivety.
Strike a delicate balance: while exercising discernment in your dealings is crucial, refrain from erecting impenetrable barriers that hinder genuine connections. Approach interactions with caution and openness, ensuring you remain discerning while fostering genuine connections with those who reciprocate sincerity.
