Today we’d like to introduce you to Mya Rodriguez.
Hi Mya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During covid I entered the small business scene selling fabric masks and hand poured soy candles. I met so many amazing and talented members of the community that when the opportunity arose to host my own markets in 2023 I focused on what I could to improve the experience for vendors by focusing on affordability and committing to providing fresh and new events for the Temecula area, including founding the Tem Ren Faire where we’ve provided guests with a free to attend experience that ensures everyone can enjoy the magic that this community has to offer. There’s so many diverse talents here and I wanted to uplift and provide platforms for as many of them as I could and it’s so heartwarming being able to provide fun and safe spaces for the music, fantasy, and craft lovers in the area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s been challenges along the way for sure, sometimes things just get in the way like weather for example but I’ve found that just being human has really made it easy to move forward through these challenges. I want everyone to have a great time and the best opportunity to succeed so when these challenges arise I’ve found that being real with people about it is much better received than you’d think and everyone’s very understanding and supportive through that, like when weather causes rescheduling and such. I make it clear that I do my research, and that I’m always looking out for everyone and it’s something I’ve had great feedback on from the businesses I’ve worked with and I’m glad I can provide those experiences for people and that I’ve earned that trust with them to believe in me and my experience. It’s a trust I treasure and value above everything so I do everything I can to rise to the occasion and be the problem solver this community needs.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I own 180 Events and coordinate a variety of markets and music related events in the Temecula area.
I’m incredibly proud of our recent Tem Ren Faire where I’ve been able to put another renaissance faire on the radar for SoCal residents and establish this gathering of everyone and their shared love of fantasy and cosplay.
I’m a one woman team most of the time and with that I have the honor of meeting a lot of the business owners I work with and developing real relationships with them because it gives us so many more opportunities to collaborate, you never know what we could come up with! I operate with a feast mentality- there is room for everyone and when we all bring something to the table we all get to eat- and I think that’s given the air at these events such a light feel and they become grounds for so many great relationships to form between small business owners, musicians, and customers. It is the joy of my life knowing that I’ve built something here that could be why someone had a fun night out enjoying a set from a local band they hadn’t heard of, got to enjoy a free ren faire, or found their new favorite local baker or craft vendor.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m an astrology girly (I know, sue me!) but love the questions that that implore us to identify our wounds and begin to tend to them. Shadow work is very difficult, who wants to dissect every bit of themself right? It’s incredibly necessary though and something that I still work on, but the goal is to continue growing and I feel that the lessons from certain transits or even the astro seasons are great prompts to begin working on myself. Queer cosmos on instagram, Colin Bedell, does great breakdowns of what each season means or the themes that we might be noticing and there have just been so many moments were I’ve felt that its relevant in my current situations and it gives me a new perspective.
One of his videos mentioned the book Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown and I continue to find myself going back to some of the statements she made in there as well, it’s an incredible guide for navigating and explaining our own emotions which is a skill I’m constantly developing and very proud of myself for prioritizing because it’s allowing me to navigate every day occurrences with a calm and patient approach.
