Today we’d like to introduce you to Monserrath Ramirez.
Hi Monserrath, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I consider myself fortunate to have always been clear about my aspirations. Since high school, my fascination with beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and their intersection with social media has been unwavering. I took on leadership roles, serving as president of the fashion club, orchestrating a fashion show, and apprenticing with renowned designer Johana Hernandez at GLAUDI. Concurrently, I managed a YouTube channel while balancing a part-time job.
In college, I pursued a major in Journalism complemented by a minor in fashion merchandise. It was during this time that my passion for content creation reignited. In 2021, I made a deliberate effort to elevate my presence on social media, forging partnerships with brands, maintaining a consistent posting schedule, and cultivating valuable connections within the industry. Additionally, I lent my expertise to DIGEE (DIG en Español), Long Beach’s inaugural Spanish-language magazine, as their social media manager.
Over these years, my involvement with nonprofits dedicated to supporting LatinX students deepened my appreciation for my heritage and identity, culminating in my current role as a social media strategist at a non-profit in LA.
Upon graduation, I confronted a sense of existential void regarding my passions and career trajectory. However, I realized that I didn’t need to confine myself to a single pursuit; rather, I could embrace a multitude of interests and professions concurrently. Thus, I embarked on a fulfilling journey working full-time at a nonprofit while nurturing my passion for content creation on social media.
Gratefully, my journey has afforded me opportunities to collaborate with beloved brands such as Princess Polly, Depop, Chamberlain Coffee, Merit, Valentino, Maison Margiela, Harper Collins, and more. I’ve been privileged to attend exclusive events and movie premieres, expanding my horizons.
Furthermore, I’ve extended my love for literature by founding a book club, @Hotpeoplereadd, fostering a community of avid readers and newcomers alike. It brings me immense joy to facilitate discussions and connections among like-minded individuals.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! What fuels my drive is a genuine, unwavering passion for everything I undertake. Moreover, it’s about instilling discipline and transforming it into a habitual practice. Achieving results isn’t always immediate; it’s akin to nurturing a seed, patiently watering it until it blossoms. There have been moments when the stress overwhelmed me, tempting me to toss my phone into the ocean and abandon all thoughts of posting, filming, or producing content.
Balancing a 9-5 job, adult responsibilities, a rigorous workout regimen, meal preparation, content creation, brand collaborations, personal time, and maintaining meaningful relationships with family and friends is no easy feat. It demands relentless effort, discipline, and a genuine passion for what you do to persevere. However, I embrace hard work without fear – a trait instilled in me by my family.
My grandfather, or Tito, epitomizes the ‘American Dream.’ He toiled in a factory for twelve-hour shifts, sleeping on a garage floor, all to support his family in Jalisco. His sacrifices paved the way for my family’s betterment, eventually bringing them to Downey and providing them with a home. Similarly, my father endured grueling 12-16 hour workdays in challenging conditions to ensure my mother and I were cared for.
I am the first in my maternal lineage to pursue higher education and attend college. When faced with obstacles, I draw strength from the sacrifices of those who came before me. Their tireless efforts serve as a constant reminder never to surrender. They have shaped me into the resilient, hardworking woman I am today, a testament to their enduring legacy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m involved in a multitude of endeavors! By day, I serve as a Media Strategist at a nonprofit. Additionally, I’m a micro-influencer and the organizer of a book club.
What truly distinguishes me is my refusal to confine myself to a single career path. Instead, I choose to embrace all my passions in life. After all, we only live once, and I’m determined to make the most of it by pursuing every avenue of joy and fulfillment.
A common thread among all my pursuits is social media and content creation. It’s where my creativity flourishes most profoundly. The thrill of filming, editing, and posting resonates deeply with me. Social media isn’t just a job or a profession; it’s a means of immortalizing my life through snapshots and videos—a personal diary to cherish for years to come.
I’m recognized for my distinctive fashion sense, my passion for literature, and my ability to cultivate thriving online communities.
Above all, I take immense pride in the community I’ve fostered as a Latina woman eager to share her genuine love for all things authentic, humanitarian, stylish, literary, and real. It’s a testament to my commitment to authenticity and inclusivity.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love?
I adore the proximity of Downey to everything! Just a mere 20-minute drive and you’re in Long Beach (where I attended CSULB), another 20 minutes and you’re in the heart of LA, and even Disney is just a short 20-minute ride away. Yet, what truly makes Downey special to me is its closeness to my family. We all reside within a 5 to 15-minute radius of each other, and they are undeniably one of the greatest sources of joy in my life. My bond with my cousins and relatives is incredibly strong, and the ability to see them whenever I please brings me immense happiness.
