Check Out Meredith Moore’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Moore.

Hi Meredith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“You are wise beyond your years” has often been the remark I receive after conversing with someone. As a young girl, I took offense to this – I didn’t want to be a 40-year-old stuck in a 9-year-old’s body, who would?! Little did I know, this compliment would foreshadow the remainder of my life. In my short 22 years, I’ve been introduced to valuable new ideas and perspectives that have led me on adventures all over the World. When I was young, I remember learning the concept that everyone is an expert at something – whether that be Steve Jobs or the homeless man keeping warm riding on the subway. In my adult life, I’ve learned to emphasize this ideal during all my interactions, in turn, building a vast network and developing bountiful knowledge/awareness.

A culmination of a lifetime of events, from the great & momentous to the bad & ugly, in combination with an insurmountable determination to rise, led me to where I stand today. Including non-stop athletic involvement, an interest in books and reading, working three jobs at the age of 16, graduating high school early, attending Central Michigan University for my undergraduate and graduate degrees, the experiences of a young adult, building a career in collegiate athletics to then exit the industry, living on each coast of the United States, beginning my modeling career and launching a business, the list goes on – but most importantly, the people I’ve met along the way accompanying and leading me on my path are associated with the successes I’ve found today, for that I will be forever grateful.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Along with any other story, the protagonist must always battle a conflict… otherwise, what’s the plot? Like many stories, my journey has led me down a road with twists and turns paved through the hills and valleys of a vast mountain range. At times, the valleys were dreary and dark, but each led to an elevated mindset that crawled up to the next hilltop.

Growing up in a small town, I struggled to find my place. Standing at 6’0 tall and 236 pounds by 16 years old, I was always considered “big for a girl.” In addition to the need for “childcare assistance” until my parents could commute home from their school districts – my brothers and I were heavily involved in sports, where I found my passion… Leading to the bullying, which began in elementary school for being overweight and a tomboy. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there and worsened as time went on – guiding me to transfer on three occasions to alleviate the situation before graduating early to close the high school chapter.

It wasn’t until I was 15 years old when my armored tough skin couldn’t protect me from the emotional turmoil ensuing from a severed family. The truth surrounding my parent’s divorce and father’s ensuing remarriage led me down a dark path that still claws at me today – but I remember my determination to rise and continue my climb. The experiences I had with my peers and teachers in school forced me to keep my nose to the books, ultimately leading me to where I sit today with a Bachelors and Master’s degree at 22. My mental health struggles, traumatic life events, and ensuing battles have sparked a flame in me to shift those fights into lessons. Transitioning loss into gain. While no, the road has not been smooth – I wouldn’t be the person I am today without those scratches and dents forged on a long journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being the baby girl in the family, I became well-versed in arguing with my brothers and asserting my opinion at a young age – sparking an interest in law. Ultimately, my passion for sports and law flowered into the goal of working for the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) or becoming a sports agent. These goals have since taken a new form and my personal aspirations have altered throughout the duration of the past year. However, I began my professional endeavors by monitoring compliance for the NCAA at various Division-I institutions. I earned five years of workplace experience before exiting the collegiate athletic industry to pursue a varied version of the same dream, a career as a change agent. In 2020, my business partner and I launched our company – Tempête Studios, which was recently featured in a VoyageLA article for the initiatives we seek to attain.

In combination with my vast workplace experience, my studies and personal endeavors have further elevated my capabilities to pursue my goals and achieve a place on the Forbes “30 under 30” list – a long-time goal of mine. While earning a Master of Science in Administration degree, I diversified my skills and abilities by taking every possible opportunity to learn something new. Granting me the chances to develop learning initiatives for various levels of constituents, creating budgets/financial mark-ups, facilitating collaboration, exploring and maintaining regulatory practices, implementing new software and technology, recruiting/succession planning, conflict-management techniques, etc. Today, I utilize these skills to run my business and continue my endeavors in sparking change in whichever industry I am in.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The only luck I will claim is associated to the Irish blood pumping through my veins, all other “luck” was earned and fought for. My life has had nothing to do with luck and all to do with opportunity and hard work. At no point did I “get lucky,” I worked through the blood, sweat, and tears to achieve the things I bolster today. I sacrificed, suffered, and at times didn’t see a light in the tunnel – but I never gave up. The determination to continue fighting is the only “luck” I’ve got.
