Check Out Madeline Stanley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Stanley.

Hi Madeline, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey started when I was 16. I got a job at Target and saved up all my paychecks to buy a digital camera… which was promptly stolen the very same day. My friends all chipped in and bought me a new one for Christmas that year and I’ve been stuck behind the lens ever since.

I went on to study photojournalism from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. There I learned so much about storytelling and the craft of photography but also that I just wasn’t cut out for the newsroom. I found myself much happier shooting portraits and weddings.

I moved to Los Angeles about five years ago and I have loved (almost) every minute of it. I hit the ground running and I met the most awesome and creative people along the way. There is always something new to discover here and finding hidden gems is one of my favorite past times. I spend the most time these days shooting fashion and portraits. It’s been so fulfilling to see my artistic visions and collaborations come to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy. Moving from mid-Missouri to Los Angeles was a culture and a financial shock, but I knew it was the right decision. It took me a little while to find my footing and community but it’s been such a worthwhile struggle. I still get stressed about parking and permits, but I don’t think that will ever change!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer who specializes in fine art photography. While I shoot all sorts of projects, my favorite things to photograph are fashion and portraits. I’m really proud of my work with fashion brands. TUK and Straight Outta the Coffin have been some of my favorite clients. Working with alternative brands really lets me flex my creativity and bring a moody vibe to my photos, which is my specialty. I still have a soft spot in my heart for photographing alternative couples, as well. Send all the spooky couples my way!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’d say I have definitely benefited from good luck. I’m incredibly lucky to have met so many amazing people that I get to work with all the time. I have my own little photo family and I’m incredibly grateful for them.
